Hello,
I am looking for a good rastor to vector converter. I like the function found in PartWorks but find it limited to only being able to trace the outline (as opposed to centerline) of a scanned image.

I have tried some on-line converters and even paid for one but I keep ending up with choppy broken lines even though the original drawing lines were very clear.

Can anyone recommend a good converter?

Thanks
Ben

inkscape is an excellent FREE app:

I use Acme Traceart, but I now use the vectric function more as it creates closed vectors.

Adobe Illustrator CS4 or the new 5 has a great function called Live Trace. The program is expensive and the learning curve is steep, but it does a great job.
I would recommend that you use Lynda.com for the training as the $25 per month fee will save you many frustrating hours. Just a month or so should have you to a really good level if you put in the time. I have done it both ways and this is easier.
Now that CS5 is out you may be able to buy a student copy of CS4 quite cheap if you qualify. Adobe will allow for a legal transfer if someone has a legit used copy for sale, and that can be a very good deal if you can find one. BUT Please Be Careful many of the bargains you see for used copies are usually just a rip off and loaded with virus.
