Here's a photo of an architectural model which I made and has been accepted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (http://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibitions/summer-exhibition/) (London).

The landscape is in ash, the house in plaster-of-paris to reflect the chalk escarpment the house is to be built on.

The house posed a few problems. Machining a large block of P of P seemed risky, and in any case there are undercut areas that would be difficult/impossible to machine. Instead I machined parts to make a nine piece mould and cast the P of P. Heart in mouth stuff.

Size is about 2'6" x 1'6" x 1'

Thanks Charles. Couldn't have even thought about it without the ShopBot.

Next time you machine Plaster of Paris try adding dextrin. I add 3 parts PP to 1 part dextrin. You can then drive a screw into it without shattering.
Very impressive work.

Thanks Butch! That's the beauty of this forum, how would I have ever have found that out otherwise.

Another model, this time made of plastic - both the landscape and the buildings (except the rusty steel one) are made using a foam core with resin/stone dust skin.

Model measures about 33" x 29" x 10"
