View Full Version : Christmas around the corner

With Christmas around the corner, I'm thinking of doing some reindeer for the family again. I have the .sbp files from Ed McCullough a few years ago. I did lose the .dxf files though due to a computer crash on my office system. I was hoping to clean them up a little and smooth the edges. Does anyone have those files? Also, does anyone have files for things like penguins, angels, polar bears, etc?

I probably have the .DXF files for you to chane or manipulate them if you want.

Do a Google search for free woodworking plans. I have found a few that way. A lot of companies have stuff like that. Lowes.com, http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=howTo&p=Build/snowmanYardArt.html&rn=RightNavFiles/rightNavLumber

Geogia pacific (gp.com)http://www.gp.com/build/pageviewer.aspx?repository=bp&elementid=3765

Here are just a few.

For Christmas 2005 we put together some Free files and these are still available from,

http://vectric.com/vcarve-download/xmasprojects/05_xmasprojects.htm

Simply download these files and the Trial version of VCarve Pro and you can save the toolpaths and cut the projects on your ShopBot.

Although the associated documentation and videos etc talk about using VCarve Wizard, they are perfectly valid for the newer version of VCarve Pro.

We will update the files a little closer to Christmas.

I hope this is useful,

Tony

I made a load of files like this last year, v carved into polystyrene then painted, for Shop windows.
There are snowmen, ski-ing/ skating polar bears, Santas elves etc.
If anyone is interested I could post the files, and sizes (you can scale up or down !)

These are the .dxf files for the v-carving front and rear of Santa

2298
These are the outline files. I made them in two pieces of 50mm(2") foam and stuck them together.
V-carving isn't deep (10mm)so you could cut them back and front of a single piece, if you want to play with registration!
Shopbot file is nearly 18,000 lines, so I guess any files will have to be emailed.
I will put the set together as .dxf and .sbp, with ,jpg's of each
Anyone want them email me. I will give it a week then email them all out together.
There is, of course, no charge

Here they are in 'quick & dirty' EPS format. Should pull right into PW, Insignia, Pro & VCW. I did a quick trace on them, so you'll want to edit & tighten up some of the spots to suit your needs...Can't take away all the fun!

Yep...just make a left at 5 points, go around the bezier curve just beyond the straight span bridge.

I just imported the 1st file and fixed the crossed nodes (didn't see them before export)...ALL of you guys should know how to do this! I have done the 1st one, and believe it or not...I am also hit with the Christmas rush here too already...So you guys will have to tackle the other ones.

I have had lots of emails requesting files.
These will be assembled by the end of next wek and sent out.
They are in mm's, but I guess you all know how to click from inches to mm

Or we can devise a formula to change from mm to inches and alter the sizes in Shopbot.

One small thing coming from 1 email. You can do as you wish with these files, make them for the Grandkids, the kids school, sell what you can make to shops, as you wish. If you can make some money from them, great.
However, I retain the copyright, so, no! you can not create a CD and sell my files!

It would definately not be cool for someone to use this stuff commercially or sell it as part of a collection...I sincerely doubt that anybody would get rich off of these files anyway!

Anyone interested in Vcarving fancy shapes?

I have a number of these I will no longer be using commercially.
If I can discover how to zip then together, I will make sets, Christmas, fancy carving, nursery animals (bitlike the Christmas files only animals etc.)

The first (unofficial) Romanian Shopbot camp is in its second day, ends tomorrow, so I will do this at the weekend.

I promised the files for Monday.
Came home from toiling at the coalface to find my internet connection was off!!
It's on now (06:45) but it's back to 'toting that barge, hoisting that bail' so I will do it this evening (which is late morning for our American brothers

One of our American visitors gets back home today,(in time to vote) wants to write the report on the first Romanian Shopbot camp (unofficial) and post pictures

I have now sent the Christmas files to everyone who emailed me or who have posted above (apart from Andy B, Robert L and Ted G. I can find no email address in your profiles)
If you are expecting Christmas files but haven't received them email me.
I was going to send the fancy files, but they are on the workshop computer. I will send them tomorrow.
If you like the fancy files I can create a lot more, but as a Christmas present. Santa has fouled up again, and I am left making rocking horses! I will be delivering in Europe from Wednesday, and again at the end of the month, so everything has to fit around this.
I will get the Christmas ones out for certain to any one who asks, before the end of November.
The bigger number of fancy ones for Christmas.
Mind you, nobody took up my offer last Christmas, a file to cut the outline of Wyoming.

It took me a while to organize, but here are a few pictures from the first Romanian Shopbot camp (unofficial). Mike was a wonderful host, and Romania proved more than I expected. Once I catch up on the backlog I'm ready to try a horse head. Thanks Mike, for all you and Roxana did th help make this a great trip.

Mike is the one with the water. Romania has zero tolerance for drinking when driving. But I can attest, Romanian beer was good.

I have 45 different and unique Santa/Elves/etc files in .AI format. To make these useful, you'll need software that can import/open early versions of .AI files. Then print a color copy of the ones you like, for reference how to paint them. Then make your toolpath for the outer shape of the design you like, cut from plywood or MDF or Coroplast, and paint.

I made these by copying clip art from various sources, so they may or may not be OK to reproduce commercially. I think it's no problem to make some for your own yard though - and I don't intend this to be the start of another tangent on copyrights!

If people are interested, I'll post these files on my web site.

I've been unable to make the files downloadable in spite of making a table with images in .png format, that are linked to the source files in .AI format.

Any suggestions how I make these downloadable?
My objective was to let people see the images before downloading - so they would not have to download ones not desired.

Otherwise I could just zip everything into one file and email it but then people may get stuff they don't want.

drodda

OK the motherlode of 33 holiday clip art designs has been loaded onto a web page for your downloading pleasure. You'll need to be able to use .EPS files. I figured these would be easier for people than the .AI files. I haven't spent any time reducing the number of nodes/points, but for yard ornaments, they should cut just fine after you resize them.

Check out the web page here:
www.designcutters.com/holidayart/holidayart.htm (http://www.designcutters.com/holidayart/holidayart.htm)

The visible .jpg files have been compressed so that they would load faster, so don't expect high quality on the thumbnails. Just click any thumbnail to save the .EPS file to your computer.
