Building a MAME cabinet for my kids. At least that's what I'm telling my wife
It's about 70% of a full size cabinet, so I'll have to sit on a stool to play.

Here it is, halfway put together. Still waiting for some parts. But it's playable

Brady - I'll be doing a "big boy" one later for the shop. Still debating whether or not to have it be 4-player (for games like Gauntlet, TMNT, etc...)

I will also be using a Wells Gardner arcade monitor. Oh, and a coin slot (Hey if the employees are going to play it, they gotta pay
)

I've already started collecting parts, most of the stuff is shipping from the UK. I'll post up when I start on the "real" one...

Gabe,
I like the little one...pretty cool!

Just have the machine under lock & key...make them rent it by the hour like a pool table...take their license as collateral too!

Wow John! A++ job!

You know...she is going to tell thousands upon thousands of people over the course of her life that you made this for her!

Hey fellas! This is my all time favorite hobby! I am a regular over at www.byoac.com (http://www.byoac.com) (build your own arcade controls). If you have any questions, please ask! I have also built my own touchscreen juke and poker table. Here are some links to those. I am excited to see what I can do now with the shopbot!

I really want to build a mini skee-ball but I don't know anything about designing electronics such as a counter to keep the score. If anyone knows a ready-made source for such.. please pass it along.

These are my favorite bot projects.

I wonder if there is a cheap mini version out there you could hack?

HEY!
Scott Smith,
Mechanical Engineer, Skee Ball Inc.
(And Shop Boter.)

Seriously, the scoring isn't that big of a deal.
On the older alleys, if the ball goes in the 30 pocket it hits a switch for 30, 20, and 10. 10 points each, it displays 30. Your concern should be getting the curves on the ball hop correct! (The ramp just before the target board.)

Cool deal Scott.

Funny you mentioned the ball hop. I actually bookmarked a site where a guy had made his own full size skeeball and he had posted scaled layouts for the actual ramp profile he used (after several tries as I remember). I saved the website but have to look it up again now.

I located switches at "Happs", a pinball/arcade supplier but no scoring display boards, and I wouldnt have a clue how to design the circuitry anyhow.

I really want to do it.. how hard can I lean on you? My email is in the profile.

Here is a great start. http://delabs-circuits.com/cirdir/theory/gates/doc00021.html This is a very simple counter. It uses some very cheap Iintegrated circuits. You can get the idea and really experiment with this with what is called a breadboard. Breadboards bring "do overs" to electronics. Also, this is a very low voltage system so the danger level is barely on the scale. Also, the key thing about the switches are they can be any type. The application you are talking about sounds like a "momentary switch" large enough to be triggered by, and not damaged by, the ball. You could create a tube under the target hole and place a switch as simple as one of those replacement horn buttons to something as elaborate as a laser switch. (like the ones that go off when you enter a store)

Switches on the red dots? With the tube blocking the ball from activating lower switches. Of course the laser switches would mount in the mouth of the tube so the tubes wouldn't need to go as far.

2403 --Bear with me I did this in MSPaint--

Bring this schematic to your local radio shack and you will be surprised just how cheap it can be. The real cost will be the really big digital numbers. :o

I love what you folks are doing so I thought you might enjoy a related posting from another forum. I'm a commercial model railroad builder and so my biz is pointed in that direction. Anyhow take a looksee and see that even in 1/4 inch scale there are some very clever builders!

Joe,

I just saw your post. Man, thank you for that link... I have been playing with the settings and I might actually be able to put that together.

Thanks again!
