I did recieve the rhino file although I haven't cut it yet all the vectors are in good shape.
Also, I was sweating the whole payment in euro thing but paypal made that easy as well.
Thanks again.

hi everyone
new table design

myxpykalix
11-24-2010, 03:09 AM
on your first table in the post what is the size translation in inches? Are your files laid out in such a way that they can be laid out and nested on .75" mdf? How would you change all the various mortise and tenon sizes?

fabrun
11-24-2010, 04:17 AM
i'm making the nesting and adjust thickness if needed

jimmya

I ordered one and the file he sent was not usable, I emailed him he sent another one still can not use the file. I wanted to cut it out of 3/4" material and it came back as something like .6" slots, so I just gave up, As a lesson learned

that's the only thing i don't want, lies on my honor
i'm selling at low cost (10 euros for the round table you are talking about)
i'm making all the modifications people want (for free)

if you want 3/4" (19.05mm) i can make
why have you not explained clearly to me?

i design in 15mm (0.59055")
someone on this forum want another thickness with specific gap (slot)
you can see the result on the photo

if you want, i can send your money back, no problem
i'm not doing this to earn my life
with still lies like this , i will stop, no problem

I don't need the money back I would just like a file I can use. I don't know where I lied, but, I'll take your word for it.

fabrun
11-24-2010, 07:35 AM
don't worry, you will received a good file soon

but
if you have the 0.6" (15mm) thickness file it mean it is the original design
i don't remember your email to have a different thickness!

jimmya

This is what you sent

right
and if people ask ( and give information), i nested the part to fit your sheet dimension
i'm working on your file (0.75" thickness)

file sent!
hope you will show some photos here

Jimmy,
I'd guess there's a bit of a language gap here and perhaps Fabrice didn't literally mean "you lied" in his reply. These things happen in translation.

He seems sincere and willing to make good on his commitment. Let us know how it works out.

it's true that my english is not perfect and can cause some misunderstand
but the fact is that i never received his request for modification
everything is repaired now

fabrun

i don't know your cam software
maybe you are importing in inches instead of mm

fabrun
11-24-2010, 09:48 AM
.75"=19.05mm plus little gap =19.56

jimmya
11-24-2010, 09:52 AM
Ok tell me what I need to do to size it down ???

fabrun
11-24-2010, 09:57 AM
you'd better ask to someone who use the same software than you

but, as 1"=25.4mm
try to scale it down by 25.4

myxpykalix
11-24-2010, 10:04 AM
I think what he wants and maybe this is lost in translation, is for all the parts to fit on 1 sheet of mdf with the slots to be cut at .75 INCHES (3/4 of 1 inch) in size so that the material fits together.

Maybe you are sizing it at 75 millimeters? Can you, within your program create this file in inches and not milimeters? That might be where the confusion is in the conversion.

jimmya
11-24-2010, 10:05 AM
My point is Why would you send a file that you say is .75" when infact it's not. The table tops are not sized right either.

jimmya
11-24-2010, 10:07 AM
I can use more than 1 sheet it does not matter All I want is a file that works like he said it would

jimmya
11-24-2010, 10:08 AM
in inches not mm we live in the USA lol

myxpykalix
11-24-2010, 10:10 AM
jimmy based on the first picture one thing you have to do is take the parts and nest them together closer to be able to work better with them. I'm not sure why they are laid out like that.

jerry_stanek
11-24-2010, 10:31 AM
When you open the file tell it it is mm then change back to inches. I have to do this with some of my AI files that I get from customers.

fabrun
11-24-2010, 11:11 AM
if you open the file in inches
the right scale is
19.56/.77=25,01298

jerry you're right. it is the best thing to do

jimmya
11-24-2010, 11:39 AM
Can you tell me if all your parts are meant to be laid out on one sheet of 48x96" mdf (or your equivilent over there)?
If so, can you simply leave out the vectors of the finished model and lay the parts out so that they can be nested on the sheet and all the parts have the slots in all the round parts be .75 inches?
Can you also have the slots in the legs be .75 inches? Because when i bring them in the slots in the top vary from .7618 in the top round piece to .5568 in the second, and they are ALL different.

Maybe there is something I am missing but this isn't rocket science, so i'm not clear why i can't get a file with that .75" for all slots.
Has anyone else bought files like these and had any issues? Maybe i could learn from you how you loaded the file and correct it, if it is something I am doing wrong?

Jimmy

The correct conversion out to 6 places is 25.400000 mm = 1 inch
so just scale 19.56 / 25.4 = .758 inches for your slot width

mm/25.4 = inches

myxpykalix
11-24-2010, 12:02 PM
maybe i am not following this correctly but based on the picture he posted Bob using your math he would have to select all slot vectors and do this calculation and resize them? Then if the vectors are not connected have to go in and reconnect them?

Seems like a whole lot of work for a file that shoulds come to ready to cut, sounds like he would be better off to start from scratch himself...

fabrun
11-24-2010, 12:45 PM
ok
i've download trial version of aspire

load the file
in width i see x:6225.041
i change the units for inches
i check "scale data with job" (you forgot this certainly)
change the width value for:

6225.041/25.4=245,08031496062992125984251968504

and (o surprise), all the drawing is at good scale!

the slot is 0.77" because i let a gap to facilitate building

please do me a favor, stop saying that my file is not ready to cut
all you have to do is to learn your cam software

fabrun
11-24-2010, 12:51 PM
here is a sample file of the table
everybody can see that every slot has same dimension

Most of the world works in mm's. The US and a few other places work in inches. If you are going to use files intended for a world marketplace you really should learn how to properly convert metric to imperial. Not learning to do so is similar to shouting in English to someone in their own homeland who doesn't speak what to them is a foreign language in able to make yourself understood.
Fabrice's designs are original and interesting. If one has a problem it would only make sense to do the same thing you do if you have a problem with your new SB. Contact the designer and ask for assistance.

Hi Dave,
I would politely disagree with you in that, I wouldn't buy a car to run here in usa that has speedometer marked in kilometers (or whatever it is). I downloaded his sample and tried to do the conversion and without knowing the mathmatics involved to know the conversion rate:

"6225.041/25.4=245,08031496062992125984251968504

taking it to 32 places, I can see how he would get frustrated and confused. If it was as simple as just clicking a button to change the unit of measurement that would be different, but i think the way it was laid out in such a big space leads to the confusion.

Here is something "conceptually" I may be confused on. Lets say I have a
project that starts out at 6"x6" and i draw a square box that is 1"x1" measured in inches, and i hit the button to change the unit of measurement to mm.
The 1" box does not change in its overall deminsions but just in the units it is measured in, correct? But this seemed to be different. I clearly admit i am still confused. It is one of those things that it takes you a while till the bulb goes off over your head and you finally get it.

However i do think he should make ready to go files for imperial and metric, and i was a bit surprised by the attitude. It is a little offputting to be denegrated in a open forum when you simply don't understand something or called a liar by someone who wants to sell something here. That doesn't seem to garner good customer relations. Maybe like has been said it is lost in the translation.

Like the commercial says.."But what do i know, i'm just the 800 pound gorilla in the room"

hi jack
i'm definitively sorry that people don't know how to use their cam software

the conversion need to be done only one time (not 32)
change between mm and inches is basic operation

i was shocked by the fact that jimmy say that i send another file.
i checked my incoming email folder
i never received his request for modification
it takes me only 10 min to change thickness and slot gap, why on earth, would i not making it?

doesn't change anything, i will fix every problem he will have with my files (even if i know my cad files are well done) and will make all the modification that he want

I'll post the file you sent me and lets see who is right or wrong. When you size it, the slots on the round parts do not match the backet parts.

jimmya
11-25-2010, 06:51 AM
The 2 parts in the attachment they enter lock is that not right? If so why are the slots not the same size?
