One other thing I do in my spare time is build and work on old tube style guitar amps. They are generally wired into a metal chassis, and it is kind of a pain to hold the housing at various angles to solder and see things.

An amp cradle is just an adjustable stand which allows the chassis of various lengths and widths to be held horizontally, or at an angle for optimal working position (because there are usually tubes, switches, jacks, etc coming in from both sides and the top).

I used to make these in a run of ten units for an amplifier kit supplier, and he would resell them to his customers. I made them up using various jigs, etc and they were pretty time consuming.

One of the first things I wanted to do when my Buddy arrived, was try cutting all the parts on the CNC, and do away with wooden cleats and screws, etc as I had in my old style.

All the parts are cut from 12mm Baltic birch ply. The first prototype seemed to work out fairly well! A little glue, and tap them together. Man, this CNC really makes things EASY!!

Thats pretty neat. I'd say you could probably use that same concept for holding a myriad of "things" to work on them. Tower computers comes to mind for me seeing as you have to insert memory cards with it sitting at an angle and other pirepirhals. Good idea:D

Well Andrew, your grasp of cnc is pretty astute, your cuttings are well ahead of the norm.
Your woodworking knowledge and Mechanical abilities will probably have you in the top few in a short time..

I have too many plans and not enough time to think... got to remember, the machine isnt going anywhere and I have done quite a bit in the two days I have had it running.

Tomorrow I have to start back to getting some cabinets made... but I will have to dedicate some time each week for test cutting cnc stuff.

This has been a long time coming... but I am so glad I finally made the jump and spent the $$.

You guys (all of you here on the forum) are a big part of why I chose a Shopbot, and I really appreciate being part of the forum now!
