The 2013 Florida Shopbot camp will once again be at my shop and we have confirmed dates.

They are March 8th and 9th.

We are continuing the special program for Friday and this year it is going to be an emphasis on dimensional sign making. We're going to cover topics from designing for 2-d programs, finishing, materials, full 3-d, textures and incorporating 3-d into a simpler to machine sign using reliefs from other sources than your own creations. This should be really interesting as even if you don't do this kind of work for a living it is a lot of fun and can also be a nice value added item for your shop or hobby.

Saturday will have show and tell, info about what's new at SB and SB software, and other interesting and educational stuff. More information about presenters and topic specifics will be posted here as they are confirmed.

The address is 1910 NW 29th St.
Oakland Park, FL 33310

Both days will start with coffee and doughnuts at 8AM, free lunch, and end around 5PM.

You can make your reservations by e-mailing me or Bill Palumbo:

DaveR (at) professionalmillwork (dot) com
docpalumbo (at) gmail.com

All, whether owners of Shop-bots, other cnc's, or dreamers are welcome.

OK, the Camp e-mail has been sent out to those in the "local" vicinity, and we got slammed with RSVP's yesterday, last evening! Some are coming for the sign session on Friday, and many are coming for BOTH days of the Camp.
We're hoping to get some Shopbot staff down there to assist in the variety of sessions we're planning, and we'll announce more about that soon.
In the meantime we have also had some inquiries from Shopbotters who are
skilled in specific areas and they too will be helping in the presentations.
The first 'Botter we have added to the agenda is Andrew Mcclary of High Voltage Hot Rods - http://highvoltagehotrods.com/about/
Andrew will do a session on Saturday in which he'll go over "How to machine aluminum..."
Rumor has it that he might even drive to the Camp in one of his electric vehicles for "Show and Tell"...

Another new session; Gary Campbell of Shopbot will be there Saturday to go over the procedures for 'tuning up" a Shopbot. He'll explain some of the on going things to check for, and describe the processes used to KEEP your machine(s) running properly !
Again please drop us a note if you plan to attend, and when you do let us know if you'll be there for the (sign making) Friday, or the all inclusive Saturday sessions....Thanks

Thought I would do something for the Friday sign session and here is my design result. Did the tree, letters, and frame in seperate relief layers so they can be cut seperate, finished, and then assembled if desired. Anyone else who would like to have a go, whether you are coming or not, is welcome to also. The "winner" get's it cut!! :D I have Artcam Pro 9 but Aspire reliefs can be sent as an stl.

We have lined up some new stuff for Friday.

Kit Hajczewski of Otsquago Design (http://pckitworks.com/index.html) is coming down from New York and she is a world class sign-maker who has done a great session here before and will do so again and will have more time to expand and field Q & A.

Precision Board is sending samples as well a a large piece that will be cut for a demonstration project (The camp sign!!).

Jason and Melissa Jones, Shop-bot owners, and incredible signmakers (www.nicecarvings.com (http://www.nicecarvings.com)) are sending a slide show of their work, all done in Aspire, as well as a video of a case study for one of their recent projects including the modeling, hand carving, cnc carving, etc.

We have more pending and I'll let you know as it is confirmed.

We're down to a couple weeks. If you are planning to come let us know so we can be sure and have enough food and chairs.

I will be driving down to the camp in the EVGT-40 on Friday. I look forward to seeing what other Shopboters have done. On Saturday afternoon I will be bringing in the Electrovair III and discussing the issues with cutting aluminum and how some of these were solved.

I will also be showing one of our latest projects created on the Shopbot, a plastic vacuum forming machine which we used to make clear battery box covers for the Electrovair.

If you haven't been following us on facebook, I recommend going to www.facebook.com/highvoltagehotrods (http://www.facebook.com/highvoltagehotrods) and liking the page.
