Has anyone had any luck installing and using the gear making gadget for the v-carve utility which is downloadable from:

http://gadgets.vectric.com/index.php?option=com_zoo&view=category&layout=category&Itemid=186

I downloaded it. I ran it; but it doesn't seem that it installed. The installation didn't quiet look right. It was as if, perhaps, the archive was corrupted or something.

Thanks,
Chazz

Chazz...
If everything un-zipped to the right folders, you still have to restart the software for the gadget to show up.

Also check which version of Windows you are using. I don't think it works with XP.

There is a gear generator on line which is a whole lot easier to use. The guy only gets $29 for it so the cost is not much of an issue. To cut a gear with it you just save the gear as a dxf and then import into Aspire. You can cut what you import and the sizes will be spot on.

What version Vcarve are you using and where did you get the Gadget? The Gadget posted on the forums is for older versions of Vcarve Pro. You can get the new version from Vectric at http://gadgets.vectric.com/

Here is a short video showing the use of the Gadget https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGadpdJAfcs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGadpdJAfcs)

Thanks all, Never knew that site was there- just the circle size one would have saved me hours two weeks ago.

I got it from the same site you mentioned and I am using vcarve 7.012. It downloads as an EXE so running is the only option that makes sense. I have Win 7. It seems to install ok up to the point shown in the picture.

I try the install while VCarve is not running, then restart it. I don't see any change in the menus. While I would not mind making some gears, I mainly am interested in what can be done with gadgets.

Thoughts?

Are you running the trial version of VCarve? The trial doesn't support gadgets.

It installs fine for me on my main and test machines.

The actual gadget is installed to the "Public Documents\Vectric Files\Gadgets\VCarve Pro V7.0" folder. Might be worth checking that you don't have any permissions issues with that.

If you want to see what can be done with gadgets then I suggest downloading the SDK which consists of documentation and sample gadgets from the http://gadgets.vectric.com site under Developer Info.

The SDK installs to the same folder location as above.

Window 7, VCP 7.012. Downloaded all Gadgets and all work.
Chazz, got to that screen and just pressed "install" even though it showed nothing. 2 or 3 of them did that but installed fine.

I didn't have the directory that you mentioned at first. The last part on mine is "VCarve Pro - ShopBot Edition V7.0" so, I tried to make the directory to see if that would fix it -- no joy.

I am working with Vectric tech support now.... pong-ing e-mails.... I will report the resolution.....

I downloaded and successfully installed and ran Gear Maker Gadget, but was unable to do same with Valence Gadget. When trying to run I received the following message: Error: Script does not start with "...VETRIC LUA SCRIPT"

VCarve Pro, Windows 7

For those who have Rhino, here's a link to a script to make gears: http://www.rayflectar.com/Rhino/RhinoScripts-Gallery.htm

Just following up, the solution was to uninstall VCarve and re-install as administrator. When I did that, it worked fine.
