YES, it's ON !
Making a return engagement to Durham, NC on April 23/24th, the 2010 Shopbot Jamboree !!!!!
New location, new information, new machinery(?), and more...
Please go to the following web page for basic info, and registration; http://www.shopbottools.com/jamboree.htm
We will post the tentative agenda of speakers, etc. within the next few weeks, both on the Shopbot web page, and here on the Forum.

We've now added some more info, including proposed topics/speakers; http://www.shopbottools.com/jamboree.htm
If you have ever been to a jamboree before, you'll know that everything is always in flux, and we will probably be adding more to this list in the next few weeks. Please read the blurb, and if you are planning to attend, register early so we can plan accordingly. Thanks !

Linker Log Contest !!!
We occasionally try to incorporate ongoing projects into the Jamboree framework, and this year our focus will be on the "Linker Log technology".
We're going to have TWO contests; one for those attending the Jamboree in person, and the "virtual" contest for those of you who are unable to make it to Durham.
Here are the "rules";
"Make the most interesting thing you can sort out using only "LinkerLog technology". That's it!
This means using the parts from the Sketchup 3D warehouse, OR even drawing up your OWN Linker Log components ( although we ask that you send us a copy of any "new part" you create , so we can add it to our library for everyone to share....)
If you will not be at the Jamboree a photo of the completed project, a screen shot of the object in full 3D software simulation, OR the Sketchup model so we can "build" it here on screen will all be acceptable for submission.
Full info on LinkerLogs can be found at;http://www.linkerlogs.com/
This gives you a few months to come up with something really good....We'll post an announcement soon which will include the web address for you to submit virtual entries to. If you plan to attend we will have "parts" on hand at the Jamboree so keep in touch with us regarding the scope of your project/contest entry.

Jamboree reservations-
We've had a few e-mails asking how to register for the Jamboree. The only way to do so is to call Shopbot directly at-1-888-680-4466.
And if you are coming to the Jamboree and would like to take advantage of the reduced rate at the Durham Courtyard by Marriott you should call soon as there are only twenty rooms "blocked" out at this rate. The Marriott is directly across the street from where we are holding the Jamboree so it is VERY convenient...
For any other info please go to the web page at;

Jamboree/North Carolina Maker Faire !
We have again joined forces with the folks who run the Maker Faires, and for the very first time they will be holding an event in North Carolina ! Even better, they will be holding it the day after our Jamboree,(Sunday, April 25th) and in the same location ! This means you'll be able to come back on Sunday and SEE some pretty incredible stuff!
In fact if YOU would like to have a table/booth of your own for this event you can go to;
http://makerfairenc.com/ and sign up for their mailing list which will keep you up to date on their plans.
This is a great chance to be part of the first such event in the area, and we'll also be there with booths from Shopbot, and "100Kgarages.com"as well.
And as the weekend calendar starts to fill in, it would REALLY help us if those planning to attend the Jamboree would contact us to register ASAP. Thanks !

Bill Young has created a separate web page with ALL of the contest info on it; http://www.linkerlogs.com/contest.html
We're hoping to see some creative new approaches using both the "library of parts" Bill has already set up, as well as some NEW "components" that YOU have created to build something in your shop.
If you can't make it to the Jamboree in person http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif send us a picture/details of what you've done. If you ARE coming to the Jamboree with an entry in mind contact one of us (well in advance) so we can see if there will be enough parts on hand ( particularly for those of you planning to evolve beyond the reindeer era...). http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif
Prizes for both the Jamboree and virtual categories are listed on the web page...
( I have NO idea how that sad icon wound up at the beginning of this page. lots of new buttons to play with today...)...

Just to get y'all inspired for the Jamboree LinkerLogs contest, I got these pictures the other day of some LinkerLogs creations build by 4 year olds in a PreK class.

If you've already been to the Shopbot web page you've seen a list of some of the presenters we'll have at this year's Jamboree.
Looking down that list you'll notice somewhat of a " theme" this time around. Loosely put the theme is " the business side of owning a Shopbot" .
There will be talks ranging from starting up a new business, to examples of ongoing businesses which are built around a Shopbot. And we'll also have people there to describe how different software packages can make a difference in HOW you use your machine.
If you haven't been to the web page ( OR a Jamboree yet) take a peek at;
http://www.shopbottools.com/jamboree.htm
Remember you HAVE to call Shopbot to register for the Jamboree !!!

OK, for those of you who have called in and asked, here is the proposed version of the daily schedules for the Jamboree;
http://www.shopbottools.com/jamboree.htm
When you get to the Jamboree page you'll see a link that will give you all the details. And we say "proposed" because there's always last minute changes, travel glitches, etc. which come into play, and are beyond our control, but we WILL use this thread to provide any changes/updates we become aware of.....

Just a note to remind those planning to attend this year's event; "Show and Tell" is always a BIG part of each and every Jamboree. We'll have some time set aside on Friday afternoon for you to let people SEE what you've been doing with your Shopbot...
It's NOT a "competition", it's more of a chance to show off and share some ideas...We've even had people bring in parts they wanted to make, and other 'Botters showed them how.....
There will be software specialists, and hardware experts on hand, so THIS is the right time to pick some brains.....

Uhoh... Nev's going to be there? I may need to rethink attendance, I don't think I can take his upbeat personality and constant complaining about how great things are.

:)

I was looking forward to Gary being there myself. But, if his life is like mine in the way of unexpected things he may show up anyway. Heck... I won't be sure I'm going until I'm on the road headed back home and then I'll probably need photos to prove it. :D

We are getting our stuff together now and looking forward to it. It's just the ol'e bat and myself. The Bat kids are staying home.

I will be representing Thermwood Corporation and more specificly, eCabinet Systems at this Jamboree. I was asked via email if I would have any of the "links" with me at the Jamboree. The answer is "yes", I'll have five with me. You'll have to purchase the link online, as you would now, then I can take the appropriate notes and turn over the hasp to you with the manual.

Additionally, I'll be bringing several copies of the "The Nearly Complete Guide to eCabinet Systems". That'll work the same way, you'll need to make the purchase online and then you'll get your copy.

With regards to the link, I'm getting a working version installed on my computer. As I understand it, most of the features are like the features on our Control Nesting module. So in most cases, I can probably explain the parameters of the SB Link. That being said, I have no background with the ShopBot control, so I would be of little help with setting up tools. Gary Campbell was going to be able to help with that, but I see that he is unable to make the date. I was looking forward to meeting him. Hopefully, other SB Link users will be attending and are willing to answer some of those questions.

Looking forward to this opportunity.

Dennis L. Englert
Manager of Product Training

David should have reminded me of this sooner :)

We are driving up from Atlanta Thursday night / Friday morning (early) We plan to arrive no later than noon but we plan to be there by 9AM or so. If anyone has anything they would like transported (within reason) bring it and toss it on the truck. If you can't carry it by yourself that's your first hint it will not qualify for transport. :D

We are looking forward to the trip and meeting many of you guys for the first time.

Dennis, David, Robert, Bill and all my other unnamed friends...
I am going to miss being with you all. I was looking forward to my fisrt Jamboree and the comaradarie those events promote.

The trucking schedule for our upcoming move first made attending very difficult, now Jr. has a surgery scheduled on the 22nd, so it will now be impossible.

I was looking forward to meeting you all.

I finally got a chance to check the forum after being back for a week. I'm surprised no one has posted about how well the Jamboree went and how worthwhile it was. I had a great time and am glad I went. The presenters were entertaining and educational, and the theme was timely and relevant. Kudos to ShopBot for presenting and hosting a fine program, and to all the presenters for taking time to share their insights with the group.

It's always refreshing to shake hands with the people I converse with here on a regular basis, see examples of what other ShopBotters are doing in their shops, and hear some new (to me) ideas about making stuff and running a business.

The Maker Fair was a real bonus. If you ever get a chance to see one of these, I recommend it. Lots of creativity and cool stuff.

Thanks to everyone at ShopBot and to all who contributed to making this year's Jamboree a success.
