This past weekend we held a "teacher's Camp" in Higginsville,MO. 25 teachers from a few states attended the Camp, and we were able to cover quite a bit of ground during our time there.
Our host Steve Goodman has a great program going on in which his students have access to a number of "specialty" tools, such as a benchtop Shopbot, a laser engraver, vinyl cutters, a plasma CAM machine, and assorted woodworking tools.
Their program does a lot of "pre-engineering" type projects, the most successful of which has been their "moon buggy"program. Each year NASA sponsors a nationwide contest for high school students to design, build, and then operate (on a simulated lunar surface) a vehicle which emulates the moon buggies used for actual moon work. Steve and his students have won the national title three times already, and they have more ideas in the works.
These plans include utilizing the Shopbot more than they have in the past, as they will have numerous national competitions to prepare for this year. I have a few pictures of some of their work on the Shopbot Flickr page- http://www.flickr.com/photos/campshopbot/sets/72157594519789576/

My thanks to Steve for organizing, and hosting the Camp...
