I am considering then Desktop and would like to know if machine base is built rigid. No many pics of machine frame and just wondering how well built it is. Also is this machine a good performer> Gonn make signs, pens and may digitizing parts to reverse engineer.

Thanks!

It is built like a tank for its size. The frame is welded. It'll do any of these things you mention well.

+2 on Brady's "Tank" opinion!
Northern Desktop has been to 5 shows (only half transported in the MakerCrate that Shopbot crates and takes to shows) and mine has been shifted a few times, one point at a time katty-cornered using a softwood lever(wheelchair user here) without any issues at all.(gantry blocked and aligned with decel direction!)
Make buttons in dense hardwoods with a second speed pass for cleanup and even .08" button hole countersinks stay perfect until humidity changes.
Repeatability/accuracy is excellent.
We did buy second four months after the first was bought without even seeing one.
Virtually all mistakes are operators fault:)
Think you'll be impressed.
1 vote for spindle option:)
