I hear that ShopBot now offers a probe that can help to "read" 3-D profiles from a sample part. Any comments on this particular accessory? I fit works good, it might be just what I am looking for.

Steve,

I don't know about shopbot's probe, I made one with the help of a machinist buddy, but the probing concept and software work very well. I have used it many times to copy all sorts of parts, from chair seat scoop outs the short runs of moulding.

Please tell us more about your SB probe, I'm very interested in this type product, and other may be also.

What was the cost of the probe hardware?
Are you using software from ShopBot?
What type of detail are you probeing?
Thanx,

May I suggest doing a Keyword search on the word probe !

It's in the lefthand column of the Forum menu.

There are lots and lots of past comments and good info on this subject.

just a suggestion :-)

ShopBot forum:

Is there anybody with a ShopBot probe that would
be willing to share a probe file that was created
with the ShopBot probe. I am working on some new
software that works with a probe generated file,
but I need some test files.

Requirements:
1. The file must be created on a ShopBot with the
probe.sbp program (or a variation of it).
2. I need the "right" to show that file to other
people. So don't send me a sbp file of a part
that is from some top secrete project.
3. Running Windows 95/98/NT.

What you get:
1. To be the FIRST beta tester for some never
before seen software for your ShopBot.
2. Your suggestions will be taken into
consideration on which features will be added to
future versions.
3. The ability to turn your ShopBot machine into
a true reverse engineering machine.

If you are interested in beta testing and meet
the requirements, please email me.

Is there a Shopbotter in the Cincinnati-Dayton area of southwestern Ohio that has operated the probe digitizing program for the Shopbot, and would be willing to probe a part for me? I have a crazy 3D part with no straight lines on it that I need to get a file for. I assume the probe program outputs a Shopbot file, so I'll have to create a translator to get it back into G-codes.
I'm in the Centerville area, about 40 miles north of Cincinnati.
