I am using the electronics from a full size Shopbot to create a smaller and very heavy Shopbot. the idea is less shake. How may pulses per inch is a good operating number? I know that the software has an adjustment for this, but there must be some range that is what the program likes to work with.

I think it would depend more on your gearing right? So you would want to find out what you are going to use and set it for that. I have a small machine that uses 80 pulses per inch, I think that is rather fine but it's a small cnc mill. The shopbot must be much lower and if I ever get my homemade table finished I'll let you know what it seems to be running at.
