I read a post somewhere and I have seen a few pictures...... How can I find one and how reliable are they. I would like to be able to do 1/2" finger joints in 3/4" Baltic birch.

You could easily have a mounting bracket made to hold a router or spindle parallel to the table (90-degrees from standard). You would have to raise the work above the table so that the router/spindle body would not strike the table top.

The 'aggregate heads' that are pictured on the 'big iron' CNC routers often cost as much or more than the entire Shopbot.

Brian:
For any type of a dovetail joint there has been much discussion on the forum regarding a jig to hold the pin piece verticle off one end of the table so it was not necessary to have a 90 degree cutter. Do a little search and you will find lots of info.
