COLLET NUT ON SPINDLE LOCKED UP

I was taking bit out of spring type collet the bit fell out and about 2/3 of the way off the collet nut locked up. It is not cross threaded is it possible a shaving got caught in the threads?

I would try to screw it back on and use a penetrating spray oil to flush out what ever is in the thread. Be sure to clean off all oil before using the spindle again. Does the collet lock into the nut? I have a spindle and mine does. Thats the reason i ask. Be firm but gentle and it should come off. You may try to tap the nut gently after you screw it back up just in case there is something in the threads it may too help to dislodge it . Good Luck

I will give it a shot. And yes the collet locks into the nut. I am hoping the lock ring is not causing the problem.
