This message board page is the only one that won't load on my phone. Page is too large. I want to be able to check the forum while on the freeway.

Isn't it great. We have so much interest it's getting crowded. The management of theis forum is just excellent and I trust them to keep up the good work.

Why don't you set your laptop up on the passenger seat and use your phone as a modem that's how I get from point A to point B while on the forum :>

In Canada we have our laptops sitting on our dogsleds checking the forum and watching a hockey game while drinking a coffee and wearing snowmobile mitts........not safe but at least we're well informed!

We are lucky enough to have cable. I can understand the frustration of those not in an area served by broadband.

I concur with Mr. Crumley about the excellent work done by the forum admins. We are fortunate to have this resource.

Can't remember where I got this from but somewhere on the forum (did some searching and could not find it) make a favorite or bookmark with (replace the xxxxxx's with your username and password):

http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/search.cgi?stype=n&nmsm=2&where=all&username=xxxxx x&password=xxxxxxxx

should bring you only new messages since the last time you were on. I am on dialup and it doesn't take long to just bring up the new messages.

Please correct me if this is invalid.

What they really need to do is install "Real" forum software.

Honestly, I don't post much here anymore because the software is a pain.

This has been talked about in the past ("We're looking into it") and still to this day has not been implemented.

Admin, please try Invision Power Board or vBulletin. I'll say it again, I'll donate my time to help you out.

I feel like using a apple IIc when I come here a times.

I would vote for a Simple Machines Forum.

I can't beleive I got sucked into reading this entire thread. There are more important issues like keeping people up and running and making money. The site is just fine. Spend $200k on a machine and you'll get a faster site!

I have to disagree, even free phpBB would help make this forum efficient. The problem is this software is not user friendly, it's hard enough as it is just to post a image. I already know plenty agree with me, this is a very old topic.

We don't need to buy 200k machine for a "decent" forum, the software cost is $165 + $25 a year. I'll donate it, how's that? I thought this was a place to take suggestions and help make our tools better? Well it happens through communication, this board is a big tool for that.

This is almost like saying the Shopbot should stay the way it was without adding a spindle, the 6 legs, the open exposed gantry, tool changer....we do roll with the times right?

Yes, the economy sucks BUT, there are plenty of ways to make money out there right now, just don't make the mistake of sitting around at your shop expecting the phone to start ringing with business to roll in. Find it, make it happen.

This is all just a suggestion.

Interesting a little over a year ago.

Well not too much work is involved, The company, VBulletin converts the clients board to their software so not much is lost if any. This also saves the client time and hassle from having to do it themselves.

Everybody has their preferences, opinions, etc about which software. Probably all good reasons, for each individual. However, remember - do other manufacturers have a board that even comes close to this forum? You can't please everybody, no matter which software is used. Can it get better? Sure. But don't bi*!h - it's a service provided as a help to us, not as a paid service.
Although I'll admit, image posting could use improvement.(Yes, I know bandwith costs money, but even I needed to post my sugestion for improvement)

Not that i really care that much, but I have to respectfully disagree Lou. I would venture to guess that many bots were sold due to the sales jobs many of us did when prospective customers ask questions and we give glowing recommendations
and in depth help both off and on this forum.

I have talked to several who have gone on to buy a bot. Was it my sales job that sold that bot....
maybe partially. The point is that this board is what it is because of us users who contribute to it, not by the people who pay the bill.

This is not meant as a criticism of Shopbot because I like them and the machine but meant to point out who make this board a success that it is. So I think we deserve it for the work we do here.

Thank you jack, you just saved me a similar reply.

I'm not whining here from the sidelines, I'm willing to do it or assist in doing it for "nothing". Just like when I get a call from a potential customer sent by ShopBot who would like to see my bot or has questions about it. I do it because I enjoy and believe in the machine.

Maybe foolish of me, I understand their is money involved in these demos to potential clients who visit your shop and purchase.

I have yet to ever call and cash in for my time.

I do it because of those who came before me and answered my questions with great enthusiasm.

This new software and upgrade will help their sales more, but at the same time make it fun and more enjoyable here.

A new board will inject some more "excitement".

As for bandwidth, it's not entirely needed when you are able to use <img> bbcodes.

We all do upgrades and buy the "newer" thing, why not add that same thought to this forum?

Man you guys are just spoiled. This forum is a big upgrade from the old dial up 1200 baud connection bulletin boards I used to frequent back in the late 80s. It would take hours to send a message back then and the amber monitors were hard to see also while driving down the freeway.

Don't kill the messenger, just trying to show both sides of the argument.

lou there may not be a forum board on a specific machine as big as this one, "sometimes one does not know how fast the car behind him is moving until it is alongside and passing" some of us participate in other forums that are growing at some incredible paces. this paticular thread is loaded with so much data it is slow loading, i have several computers with different "ip's", speeds etc. my home computer is faster loading this forum than my personal office computer. someone suggessted archiving, this was done up untill 3007 on this thread and may solve the problem, but for anyone with slower technology i feel your pain. what is a good example is one of the most popular and fore runner forums to the woodworking industry is soooo archaic it is in effective on it's cnc forum, thank god shopbot is not advertiser supported.

Dave...hello..it's a different century now! Turn off your "Flock of Seagulls" vinyl records and see whats new! lol (just kidding)

ABSOLUTELY we are spoiled. I said this before in another thread, we suffer from
IWANTWHATIWANTWHENIWANTIT-itis
but i really don't care that much either way. Frankly i would rather they would concentrate their efforts toward making the bot do more, different, better things which i think they are doing.

Sounds like these guys are listening to Moving Pictures "What About ME?" as long as we are quoting 80s hits.

Danny is right most forums I look at use that software these days and there are many modules available for it that will allow you to do about anything.

On a different note though, All other forums that I use require me to host my own pictures before posting or find a host site. This is not a problem for me but some don't have this ability and off site hosting sometimes goes away after a few months so the old threads get hard to follow without the pictures still available.

I use phpbb and I allow any size of pictures to be uploaded. My forum auto thumbnails them. Hosting these days is fast and unlimited monthly bandwidth and unlimited space. SO I host the pictures, it thumbnails them to reduce load times but you can click them for a larger view.

Have a look
