In last march (2007) students called me to request sponsorship for their Mini-BAJA competition (http://www.cdrummond.qc.ca/minibaja/index_fichiers/Page1275.htm). Basically, they design a all terrain vehicle (based on specifications) and compete for the best design and capabilities. They ran into a problem with their previous sponsor so they were quite in a last minute rush... I (USINUM (http://www.cooptel.qc.ca/~usinum/)) agreed to help.

They needed their Mini-BAJA's body molds (http://picasaweb.google.com/the.real.paco/CEGEPDeDrummundvilleMiniBAJAProjects/photo#5057147019720492066) milled so we decided to slice the models then mill the slices from 1 inch thick MDF so they could built up the molds to thermoformed the body covers and shields (http://picasaweb.google.com/the.real.paco/CEGEPDeDrummundvilleMiniBAJAProjects/photo#5057147019720492082).

Just a few days ago, I received the competition result and they end up 13 out of 75 team.

Hey Paco,
GREAT JOB!

I love stuff like this...I bet they were pretty happy with the torque converter cover & 'lid'

They actually said: "Your tool can mill the shape way faster and yet better than we would do with any hand tool". I believe they were both happy with the parts and not to have to make them on their own...

Funny thing is that particular competition was held in Florida I believe...

Nice work Paco. I actually participated in this competition in college about 12 years ago. Sponsorship is greatly needed, and really helps the students out. Yes, a Shopbot back then would have been very useful.

Way to go!

Very nice result. Thanks for posting and pointing out MOI (great program!) still learning how to model, but have gotten further with MOI in no time than any other program.

How did you slice the object? Using the planar tool?

Pretty cool Paco! I just downloaded the MOI software , it has a very clean simple interface unlike blender. Do you have an idea what they charge after the beta license runs out?

Nice work.

Yes, text tool is great. I know there's more to come... anybody noticed that you can work with this software with only the mousse?
