Tell ya what I would do, Waltie,...I'd carve that rose BY HAND! A machine carved rose is nice, but for your wife? If you carve it by hand, she'll know it's from your heart, even if it's not "perfect". Sort of like the clay ashtrays we use to make in school for our parents, ya know? That's what I would do, and I'm not even married! ;-)

This thread was a bit out of hand and several posts have been removed - Waltie asked for a source for a rose relief.

Free dxfs for all sorts of things can often be found on www.cnczone.com (http://www.cnczone.com) A cursory search turned up 4 dxfs for the taking.

As far as learning what to do with a dxf and how to use your bot to make something pretty from a dxf, well....that's what this place is for.

Get a hunk (or two) of balsa wood from your local hobby shop and get to work, Waltie! A carving knife and even a dremel is all you need. Make it over-sized, as the bigger you go, the easier it is to carve. And please, please, DON'T spray-paint it red. Mix a small amount of red enamel paint with some mineral spirits to make a light red stain and brush it on, let it dry, THEN hit it with some spray clear acrylic. She will treasure it forever!
