Take plenty of pictures of your process and your progress while this is cutting. I would like to see how you created this into a flat file then wrapped it. What program are you using with these 2 example pics? keep up the good work...

My First Failure

How start to narrate the experiment!!!!... Again some mistakes... The tool path created was lengthy and time consuming it took 1hour 30 minutes to reach this level as u see the pictures...

Use the 4.5mm Ball nose instead of 3 mm (1/8")... The details are satisfactory, but The tool was loose in collet for Finish Machining and I have to stop the process in mid......

Tomorrow i will again try and make the optimized toolpath ...

PS:
For me, Behind every Success their is a Failure.. So lets cross the finger for tomorrow success

Khalid,

You can see that it is definitely going to work though! It looks great! Now I want to buy an indexer. It won't fit on a Buddy? Oh, now I need a full size machine to go with the new indexer. This is getting really expensive!!!

Yes.. Mike.. Indexer is a fun work...It may or may not payback but its really a good learning experience..

The tool burning marks on the wood make my head worse... It seems that its the remaining of King TUT of Egypt..

At last I have 100% success... and this was the first time i succeeded in understanding the toolpath creation within Artcam..

The above toolpath was created in visualMill.. and the picture i am posting now is Complete work within Artcam..The complete time for Roughing 13 Minutes and Finishing pass took 1 Hr and 13Minutes...

The stepover and tolerance were kept high so the quality was not come out great.. but this is in my hand.. The main was i know how to create efficient 4th axis toolpath..

Khalid,

That looks incredible! I could see a whole baluster of heads - kind of like modern-day gargoyles. Thanks for showing us what is possible!

Khalid! I told you to stop messing around with those homemade tools or we were going to see something stuck in your head, Now look at you. You have that big piece of wood sticking out of the top of your head!
What is the height of the machined part of your model? In your first picture what did you use to create your model? GREAT JOB!

Thanks Mike, John and Jack

Jack the height of the piece is 220 mm (8.66") and the biggest diameter is 67mm (2.63")... I used AutoCad, Artcam, FaceGen and 3D studioMax for this model..

First i created simple column in Autocad then unwraped it in the Artcam..Added top and bottom leaves... I created my face in FaceGen, imported in Artcam unwrapped it and pasted it onto existing unwraped column model..

The model is then wrapped and brought into 3D studiomax as STL file, and i added Turbo Smooth modifier to it...

I created toolpath in VisualMill but i was not satisfied by the time it took to complete..you can see the first posted pictures....

I then created the toolpath in Artcam itself.. and you can see the outcome of it..

If i decrease the stepover and tolerance values..you will see the quality, details and real beauty of it..

Nice video Kahild
5 Stars for doing the research and work and not getting stopped before reaching your goal! If everyone who owned an indexer had your drive to succeed, then there would be many more turnings in the world!

Khalid: I would rate your video XX-------For Extra Extra cool, exceeded by far by the work you are doing!!! Your progress since you built your machine is fantastic. It makes me want to dump my current business and disappear into the woods with my Bot and learn my time away!!!

Thank You Dave
Don't roll off your business man ;)... Just learn this stuff in your part time so that you have a good feel of it... then explore the business for it in your locality... I wish you have good payment for it...

I thanks God that i have a job in hand... If i have no job then this CNC thing can't make a living for me.... For me its a hobby and its priceless... Nobody pay for it here in my country.. If you see a business in this field then the shopbot is the best tool you have...just add a rigid indexer to it

The most important thing in indexing or 4th axis work is the availability of 3D file... All the rest is piece of cake
