How do you seal MEDIX?

I made some picture frames from Medex.
I sprayed shellac base primer on them. The edges need to be sealed much better before I woodgrain them.
What do you use on the edges? It just keeps soaking up the shellac primer!
I'm thinking of a few extra coats of paint put on with a fitch first around the edges. There has to be a quicker way to seal it up.

John, I just recently learned to thin some wood glue and use that for your first coat. I make foundry patterns this way and instead of 4 coats of shellac, I'm down to just 1.

Your right about Medex soaking up spray shellac. The trick is to brush it on. There are several other good sealers too, like Kils. You can dilute Epoxy by 15percent with lacquer thinner. Still it takes two coats.

It's amazing how the price of shellac has gone up. I used to like it for it's cost. There are several good primers that come in at budget price. However I'm staying with good old shellac because it won't hurt the lungs or heart.
