When making a profile cut with multiple passes, does the software ignore the stepover value?
yep.
Since you're not stepping over in your toolpath, which is a setting more relative to area clears and/or "3-d" work, makes sense, right?
Been following your questions Will. We all started with no idea either. Some of us long before the software had nearly as many good tutorials like they do now.
You should take advantage of them. Will definitely help you big time.
Test stuff in cheap materials is a big plus too.
Thanks for the help. I thought that was the answer but wanted to check. I have look for it but everything talks about 3D or pocket.
I find myself going back to the tutorials a lot.
I am going to the Aspire camp next month, I hope to learn some new things there.
As always thanks again!
Will
You never stop learning. Thanks for asking that question. Because after so many years i did not know the answer either.
Here an old file from a job completed a few years ago using step over as a creative tool. Using a 1/4" ball nose bit with a 1/4" step over. Imagine what can be done with other bits with more or less stepping.http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/att...id=27882&stc=1

very nice guy's, thanks for sharing.
I was cutting 1/4 aluminum and was getting a small step and just wondered it that could have been the issue.
I don't know, maybe I'm getting a small bit of bit deflection.
You all are awesome, thanks for all the help!
Who knows without seeing. Can't imagine asking for help without a photo.
Joe,
That really wasn't a question, I was just explaining why I asked the question.
However I will post a pic tomorrow when I get back to the shop, maybe you all have see it before. I know the gantry is not loose and I have new motors on the machine. It doesn't happen on all passes.
That techniques came about my desire to bring more interest to the lettering. This was a project with back lighting. The letters ended up being about 23" in height.

I am trying to make a cut with multiple passes WITHOUT a step over. After reading the prior question, the program should ignore the stepover however it does not. It is stepping over to the outside when I am trying to cut the inside. What am I doing wrong?
Check the drawing and make sure it is a closed vector you can right click on the vector and if you get the choice to close it by moving end points or with a straight line it is open you can also look at the nodes in node edit mode. I suspect your vector is open and that is why this is happening.

Joe is always creative.:cool::cool:
