Here is a Dole Whip ice cream stand we made in January. Would you believe we built this in less than 30 days!?
Before you ask, yes, it nearly killed us.
The client gave us the dimensions of...
Very...Very cool. Really great job.
Very cool! I love this kind of stuff. Great job.

David,
The Albatross was the first airplane I had suggested in my design. I can't remember why we changed directions later to the DC3. But I had found some source imagery of a crashed Albatross...
Thanks for the comments!
To answer questions:
Gene: We had about 2 months to design/build/install. And used every minute of it. Yes I made the video too.
Russ: Yes, We sculpted the stone...
One of our biggest single pieces we've cut on our Shopbot. A 24' airplane.
We've been working on this project for a couple of months. Other pieces cut on the shopbot include many components on the...
Brought out the big guns for a photo prop last weekend. Remarkably, this was the only picture I got the night before the event. The stock was milled on the shopbot from EPS foam.
Haha. Thanks for the comments. The coating is a polyurethane (2-part) spray. It uses a proprietary gun to spray it, so it's not really something the average user can mix and spray.
I posted the head (mask) we made a while ago. Faced with a difficulty on how to store the head, as it is quite large, we decided to build a "stand" or base for it. We don't usually make things...
I have a mount for my iphone so I can stick it anywhere. Super handy, and I got it for this very purpose.
It shoots great video, and I have a degree in animation, so video editing is like old hat...
Brady, I'll figure something out. I have a year to think about it right?
Jack, When cutting EPS I go wide open throttle, you can cut pretty deep and fast. Especially with a v-carve toolpath. It...
Here is a project we 'threw together' this morning. It was actually fun challenging ourselves to think creatively in a pinch.
...
Thanks for the comments... and Jack, I'll let the big man know you think he did a great job on Matt. Matt will be pleased to know his details are so stunning.
Thanks,
JD
Ron, yes... much to share, saving that for a later post. The faces were a part of the project that the Shopbot shined on though. Most of the work on the rest of the tree was done by hand.
The...
I've been absent from the forums for a bit. But I'm back with what I've been working on. Parade Floats!
This was a fun project, as we were able to utilize most of our in house technology to...
This is really cool. Really great use of a bot.
Doug,
My shopbot is an older model, (2003 I believe) with the 4G upgrade (2007?) its a standard machine, not an alpha... I'm not sure what machine you are using, but for me, I'll let the machine...
thanks for the comments! The scanner I use is an iteration of the David Laser-Scanner. It has been countless hours of trial and error, and I'm still not where I want to be with it. And it's turned...
My super sci fi buddy wanted to be frozen in carbonite. - Han Solo style.
So last Saturday we (3D) scanned him and cut out a small model. For a quick project, it turned out pretty well.
This looks awesome! I love it even more that it's actually functional. It would be neat to have just as a prop!
I was anticipating a really hard time lining it all up. But it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, I did it by myself. It would have been easier with a second person to hold...
I put together a display for our front yard this Halloween.
First I sculpted small models, then 3D Scanned them. After setting up the files for machining in Aspire, I cut them from EPS foam on...
Actually, that's my dad. He stopped by the studio one evening so I had him put it on.
Thank you for the compliments! The scanner is a homebuilt unit. It was no easy task. But it works well...
