Thanks for the sheet. This leads me to the next question. Is there any data out there that states how long it takes a warmed up spindle to cool down to ambient temperature given different...
Hey Scott, I did get that sheet and have it hanging up next to the bot. Thanks again for the additional info Brady. I don't machine metals and I baby the machine when cutting hard maple.
Thanks for the info Brady. Anything else I should be aware of regarding differences in maintenance? Instruction manual was in Italian.
We just upgraded to the spindle. Wow, what a difference in noise levels! At full speed, it sounds like my wife's hair dryer on low compared to the router which sounds like a 747 on full throttle! ...
Smith's Oak and Teak epoxy is designed just for this application. Not sure about finish.
I went ahead and ordered a new one. I don't mind trying to rebuild it, but time is at a premium right now. I did watch a bunch of the youtube videos at home, but I don't have an impact wrench, or a...
Anyone know where I can get a PC 8902 router rebuilt. The one that came on my machine needs a new bearing and new collet chuck. I contacted the Porter Cable service center near me. They want $70...
Thanks Jim! Due to my new capabilities, I plan on doing some really exciting stuff early next year!
Still prototyping the fixture that will hold the neck you see in the photo upside down to do the heel. The heel is about 2.3 inches deep and I'll be using a 2.5 end mill followed by a 2.5 ball mill....
I just started a new thread about Marty's mod so as not to get it confused with the Shopbot 5.5 inch mod.......

As seen in these photos, I'm now able to run my experimental neck out of 12/4 sugar maple being held by a couple machinist vices on top of a 3/4 base. Then I can switch it out and run delicate parts...
Long story short, last year I was reluctantly getting ready to sell my desktop, and purchase another machine from another company that had approximately the same footprint, but more Z travel. Having...
Got the Z mod on and it is working perfectly! I machined my smallest most intricate part and saw no loss of accuracy. I'll work posting some photos and a video in another thread, but now it's time...
Scott, that is a print preview in Rhino 4.
Steve, that all makes sense about the higher Z set up. Luckily for us desktop owners the little machine is an over built beast. I can see how on the...
Hi Brady, thanks for the tip. Due to the shape of my object, I will be doing very little cutting with the Z raised up. For my particular situation, the higher Z for me is to allow for clearance...
Also, here is a shot of the bits n pieces as they were being worked on.........
OK, here is a link to the video clip I just posted of his machine with the Z installed.

Hello all. I'm the individual Scott speaks of who is having the modification made to my machine by a machinist. To make a long story short, a guitar builder in VT, came down to my shop to check out...
Before passing judgment on the quality control of a shop bot you may want to look a little further into how a stepper motor works.

Hi Don, thanks for the tips. Now I have a direction to head in. Thanks!
I'm cutting 1.5 inch thick maple into various shapes and getting decent results using a 2 flute .5 inch end mill. I cut it out larger than the actual part, then run a full depth pass right at the...
Is there a way to tell what position my router is in before performing a C3 command based on the new zero point given after the C3? I hope that makes sense!
Thanks Scott and Dave!
Karl, I use separate bits. For the pocket I used a 0.023 fret slot cutter as I've got a bunch of them. For the shell it was their specific 0.020 cutter designed for shell....
Just posted this on the desktop forum, but figured we'd add to this already existing thread in the general message board section..........
Mother of pearl Fleur de lis that we wanted to be able to...
