My wife and I own a pottery business and we have worked with glass as well (though mostly for fun). I make plaster molds for both slip casting ceramic and molding glass - and have used my buddy on...
Fearmongering and politics - that is all this is about. If people are scared of what can be done with a multi-thousand $$ 3d printer they should be terrified by what can be done on a few hundred $$...
Brady thanks for the sequence- seems much less daunting. I measured out everything today and have a better feel for how it should go.
***Move cancelled - bot is going to be sold***
I have a BT48 standard and agree 100%. The bigger question for me when deciding on my buddy purchase was 32vs48 rather than alpha vs standard. I am VERY glad I spent the extra money on the 48! I...
Ryan where did you source the synchron motor from? Do you have any issues with it running hot?
Why not just use Tung oil and be done with it? I'd imagine the result would be nearly the same with much better drying performance.
It's a loose pinion - most likely the one on the z-car. I had the exact same problem when mine was first delivered. The fix takes just a few minutes - undo the hex head bolts that mount the stepper...
Sounds like a pinion is loose - as others have pointed out. My pinion on the z-car loosens pretty regularly.
appreciate the replies:) I have the long stick now but have not used it yet as my shop needs to be rearranged to allow for the longer work surface. I think the buddy is great but if I had it to do...
I achieve a roughly similar effect by staining with a darker finish then sanding the surface and following with the finish color.
I'd love to hear how your experience is with this - I'll be adding a larger stick to my buddy this spring.
I have a recurring problem with the Y-axis pinion on my buddy (the one that moves the Z-car along the beam) coming loose. It's a pretty simple fix to unbolt the motor and tighten it but even with a...
I have a BT-48 and I need to adjust the angle of the Z-Axs - I'm not sure what the proper sequence is to do so. The "silver" colored tracks that the router mount slides in are not perpendicular to...
I also ordered my buddy with the caster kit pre-installed - good thing! Just getting it home was worth the cost. I don't have to move my buddy much, but when I do it's great having the ease of...
I own almost all of Clayton's plans - I built a few of his creations with scroll and bandsaws prior to purchasing my buddy. It is true that he does not sell digital versions of his plans - but he...
I purchased the plans for this mechanical planetary calendar - now I just need to get the shop time to complete it!

I'm going to purchase a 8' powerstick to increase my cutting area (yeah should have just bought a regular bot in the first place - too late now:o ) anyone using this size powerstick? Do I need to add...
Nah - this is just playing around and I'm too cheap for that! Pine/Sedona Red stain/2 coats brushing lacquer.
I've been playing around with slumped bottles (my wife and I also have a pottery studio) making cheese trays and such. I decided to try making a decorative piece by pocketing a piece of wood to the...
The last few months have been short on shop time and much to long on office time:( I did manage to get this Shaker "grandmother" size floor clock prototype up and running. ...
Brady your setup sounds like the best solution. In the last few days my shop has gone from 30's to 80's with some rain blown under the door for good measure. My current spoilboard (3/4 mdf screwed...
Unfortunately my buddy is in a non-temperature or climate controlled shop. I have had a hard time with various spoilboard materials warping and requiring frequent resurfacing so I've decided to pop...
I learned a good lesson last night! I've been using climb cutting on pockets since that is the default option - and then sanding for hours to clean up the cuts. Last night I used the conventional...
