Hey guys,
I'm selling my Desktop and it comes with spindle, indexer, probe, workbench, and computer for $6,000. I'm located near Atlanta, GA. Please give me a call with any questions...
You can try a few things
1) Do a finish pass with a low depth of cut. For instance if you are pocketing down to .750" then make your first pocket depth to .740" saving .010" to be cut on the last...
Good job learning the Fusion 360, I've been playing around with it and have enjoyed using it. As for the vacuum box, I built one almost exactly like that based off Gary's design (The Black Box) and...
Hey Marc,
I've cut aluminum one time on my Shopbot and the results were very very slow and pretty poor quality. If you have access to one, a VMC (Vertical Machining Center) is the ideal CNC for the...
I've used a 1/2" x 3" carbide endmill for making 3" depth cuts into hard maple. You'll find that it's best to take really small pass depths with light chiploads to keep the endmill from chattering. ...
My background has always been with AutoCAD and I just got SolidWorks/SolidCAM this summer because there were some parts I needed to make that were not possible with Aspire. I've been banging my head...
I'm not sure if it's possible to do what you want in Aspire, but other CAM systems do have this option. It's called REST machining (I think it stands for remaining stock). I own both Aspire and...
I've had good success with keeping them stored flat. Also, when using vacuum hold down I'm sure you're aware that if the edges of the plywood are bowing up then it's extremely difficult to get a...
The first shopbot I bought was 900 miles away; I hauled it on an open trailer and loaded it and unloaded it with an engine crane. I was a little nervous sleeping in a hotel while the machine was...
I stumbled across this video that had some pretty good insights to how USB ports worked and their potential problems when used in an industrial setting. I'm not very skilled in the world of computer...
Hey guys,
I need someone that can make some relatively simple 3D models for carving molds out of. I was going to use the VectorArt3d stuff but their license prohibits me from using them for a mold....
I would recommend buying the Hurricane. Because my cheapness gets the best of me sometimes, I built Gary's first design by myself but it took quite a bit of time. I would definitely buy his...
Thanks for the feedback. To clarify, the drawing of that enclosure came from Shopbot's website and is an option they sell. I thought about purchasing it but I'd probably make so many alterations to...
Hey guys,
My childhood asthma has recently decided to come back every time I work in the shop now. No fun. After multiple hours of research I've decided to take a couple proactive measures with...
I'm not an expert in grounding but I did talk to an industrial electrical engineer in regards to grounding my Bot and he recommended that the ground go back the main panel. (Not to earth).
That looks really good Dave! I was curious if you've ever used the black PVC outdoors before? I know it expands quite a bit but it might not matter for smaller signs like this. Also do you think...
I recently did my new shop, and ventured down a path of curiosity similar to yours. A good friend of mine is an electrical engineer for Eaton and his primary job is specifying the requirements for...
Thanks guys for all the help. I met with the lovely city government today:rolleyes: ,and they are forcing me to mount it to the side of the building instead of letting it hang.
Dick,
When you screw your signs to the building, how do you allow for expansion/contraction?
Jeff,
Maybe warping is the wrong term to use. I'm more concerned with it flexing a lot over it's 8'...
It will be v carved on one side and it will be hanging about 10' in the air so I'm not too concerned about teenagers. LOL
Hey guys,
I'm about to start a v-carved sign that will be hanged by 2 chains from the building's soffit. It will be 3/4" thick PVC and V-carved. Do you think I will have any problems with it...
Dave,
I'm really sorry to hear about your shop. I just built a new shop and have been paranoid about fires, especially after a guy's shop that I knew that burned down in the middle of the night...
Ross,
You'll need what's called a "Door Grade" MDF. It has more resin and machines a lot better. You'll most likely find it at lumber wholesalers who sell to cabinet shops. Lumberyards for home...
Congrats! Enjoy this time and hopefully Max will let you sleep for at least a couple hours a night ;)
