My files have been converted. Thanks to all who offered to help. The Shopbot community is fantastic.

I have received several Solidworks part files (sldprt) for parts a customer wants cut. I can view them using the free eDrawings viewer, but that is all. I need them converted to 2D vector files I can...
Obviously, this would not be as good as having a "real" vacuum pump or compressor. But, it might be a fun project if you have access to an old lawn mower engine, an electric motor and a few parts....
Have any of you ever heard of making a compressor /vacuum pump from a small (+/- 3 Hp) lawn mower engine? It might work like this. Remove the carburator and muffler so the intake and exhaust ports...

Yea, there is never enough room for storage. One technique that helps me is to use overhead space. My shop has (had) a dropped ceiling. Now, I have mostly removed all the tiles and store things on...
James,
Thanks for your generous offer to make stamps for us Shopbotters. I really don't have a present need for stamps but I would be interested in learning how you make the stamps. Learning how...
Darrell, great work! Very impressive.
Could you share some info about your finishing methods. I am most interested in how you "hard coated" the foam before painting. My reason for asking is...
Simon,
Email me a couple of the DXF drawings and I'll take a look.

Donn,
Have you checked the voltage to the router? Make sure you are getting full voltage "at the router". Low voltage can lead to higher operating temp due to increased current flow (I think)....
Why not use the Shopbot to make templates. Then use the templates to cut the top with a handheld router.
Dhouse,
I replied to your email address but the message was returned as undeliverable.
Would you like for me to create a toolpath file for you, or do the carving for you?
You can...
These are some really great suggestions! Thanks to all who have shared their experience and wisdom.
I am still considering options on this project but now I am much better informed.
Best...
Scott,
Thanks for these suggestions. Yes, the woods you mentioned are frequently used for outside applications. I may end up using one of them, but I wanted to hear what others suggested in case...
Perhaps some of the experienced craftsmen on this forum can give me some adivse on this unusual project.
I have been asked to build an 18 foot tall cross for a local Lutheran camp. The cross...
Andrew,
Check the location of your graphic image in your software. If the lower left corner of your graphic is not EXACTLY at the 0,0 point on your screen then you will be "off" when you flip...
Chase,
I live about 25 miles south of Raleigh near the town of Angier. I have two Shopbots and the software to do 3D modeling and carving. Reply by email or give me a call and lets talk about...
Good question Andrew. I have thought about the same thing but never posted a question about it. Maybe someone will reply with advise on an airbrush attachment.

Stickman,
Where did you find the AutoCad LISP program for the gears? Is it a free download? I am interested in getting the file to help with clock gears. Thanks for info.

James,
Agathis is new to me. Is it a domestic wood? Is it expensive? Where do you get it? I am using poplar for plaques also and would be interested in knowing more about alternative woods. I...
Roy,
May I ask why you are making a propeller? I assume it is an airplane propeller? I am a pilot and aircraft owner and someday hope to build a plane.

I have a Bench-top PRT which has a cutting area of 32" (X) by 28" (Y). I am considering extending the Y carriage angle iron and support components enough to provide 48" of cut (Y axis only).

Wes, This is a great project. It never occured to me to use Excel to generate CNC code. Without going into a long explaination, could you briefly describe your Excel strategy. I am also interested...
