Andrew,
I've been making guitars on the bot for about 7 years. I love making them. I think the best part is that first note you play after you get them built. The end of a long enjoyable process...
Ok, back after a month of travel! Hope to get some quality time in the shop this weekend to finish up the body, mount the hardware, mount a neck and make sure the design works. If so, the process is...
No blue print, just a picture from the internet. The idea that I am going for allows you to create the outline of the body from a picture you download off of the internet. In the case of this guitar,...
Not sure when it will be done. Depends on how much time I get to work on it in the next couple of weeks...
But, more progress. Here are some pictures (again taken from iphone) of the top of the...
Similar to the plan that I am taking with the video series. There will be a video specifically on Body design and cutting, one on Neck design and cutting, and at least 1 more on finishing, wiring...
Ok, a bit of progress!
I'm testing out the new guitar to make sure that all the processes can be recreated prior to the video. This guitar is being built entirely from a picture downloaded off of...
Not vaporware at all. My day job has had me on business travel for the last 4 weeks so no time to work on the project. When I AM at home, I work on this project and nothing else.
Scott...
Hahah... Actually I plan to use the Amazon make on demand service. You just build the DVD, send them the content and they press them to DVD after the customer has ordered. Great service!
The DVD...
Not sure how long it will be. I'm hoping to have a first version done in the next 4-6 weeks. This is my first video so I'm learning how to do this on the fly.
Again, thanks all for your comments....
Thanks everyone for your kind comments... I'll keep everyone posted on my videos. I just started last weekend. I'll be out of town for a couple of weeks, but will be hitting it hard when I get back....
Just thought I'd post a few pictures of the latest guitar I recently finished.
Modeled in Aspire
Cut on Shopbot Alpha96
Body - Mahogony / Quilted Maple
Fretboard - Ebony
Hardware - Gold

Thought I would post a video of my XYZ zero jig in action. I made the base on my Bridgeport and the center tube was made on my metal lathe.

Theresa, I dont have any PurpleHeart blanks at the moment, and do all of my fretboards in big batches. I have 30 or 40 that I have out of a variety of woods mostly ebony, rosewood, wenge etc. One off...
Thanks for all the comments!
Steve, The finish is a waterbased laquer that I use exclusively for Guitars. I spray it with multiple thin coats, and then let it dry for about a month or so. Then I...
Just finished up this new Guitar Project. This is the first one that I am selling in a retail store. Have made quite a few for myself and other customers, but this will be the first to be placed in a...
Jay,
I too have a motor left over from the 7.2 upgrade and really want to build an indexer... Any chance you could come up with a list of part numbers for what you have so others can build the...
This would be very cool for CAD drawings... It would be awesome if you could "print" to your shopbot. i.e. emulate a large format plotter like an HP760C or something like that...
Thanks for all of the input guys... I'll work on exausting the output somewhere else. Do you know if there is a duty cycle on these things? i.e. can I run this for hours at a time?
I recently purchased this vacuum pump from Amazon, and it seems pretty nice... I bury my vacuum gage past 30" and the hold down seems fantastic...

Ed,
Awesome idea!! I would love to give this a shot. I have never worked with aluminum, but I just did a google search for "aluminum rod" and this is the first thing that came up...

All,
Not sure if you have seen the software that comes with the Carvewright, but it is super simple compared to any of the software we are using for our bot. Basically you do all of your layout...
I am having this problem as well. My machine at random times says that it has hit a limit. This all started soon after I upgraded to a Spindle and 7.2 motors. I'm going to try the cap / resistor...
Brady,
Thanks for your comments. I ran a pass at 1.4 ips, 12k rpm, Climb Cut, and like the quaility a lot better. Just to see, I ran a pass at 6ips, and wow! I was starting to see bit deflection...
I am a bit confused at what the chipload calculator is telling me...
I am cutting bamboo plywood. The supplier tells me that you want to setup for the same chiploads as solid oak. I am cutting...
Ermino,
Not sure that this is EXACTLY what you are looking for, but thought it might give you an idea.
