Steve,
Nice looking sign.
Push through letters are good looking with light behind them. My only concern is moisture that will set around the letters which will cause the wood to swell or come...
Gary,
Your posts are so inspirational. Especially so with the before and after. It's heart breaking seeing the ravages of the storm.
Thank you for posting.
Jerry,
Give us a treat with a photo or two.
As you know I have dozens of PVC photo's since it's our major sign project. I can't see any reason to use 1/4" pvc when we have Dibond. That's our...
I'd be careful suggesting in suggesting .25mm pvc for exterior use. It's not exterior rated. Please check with manufacturers suggestions. What we use for thin gauge lettering is DiBond. Have you...
Steve,
How what did you decide to use for the materials on this sign?
Would you please send a photo.
Joe
Jerry,
PVC doesn't need sealing. For your own personal test, throw your scraps outside to and leave them for a few years. You will notice a slight color change to off white. Not enough to color...
Jerry,
1" PVC is $125 a sheet. It's twice the density of 18lb. HDU. We seldom use HDU. No more grit.

Phil,
Nice looking sign. Wish we were closer to assist.
I do have one suggestion, and that is, we would not use HDU. Our favorite is PVC because it's easy to finish and excellent for exterior...
Wondering why anyone would make a ceiling molding since Amazon has a tone of them for almost nothing.
Perhaps you'll attempt to give your sign a "churchey" look. What you have now looks like an entrance to a Bowling Alley. A third grade attempt. Layering won't add much without the spiritual message....
Rob,
Thank you very much for the time and effort to gather and post all those fine examples. I know what it takes. Your posts show some excellent and thoughtful concepts. All professionally done....
There are times when symbolism will show the way. It's ever so easy to design for the Greek Orthodox with Byzentine historical images. But the youngsters feel more comfortable with current images....
I'm sure Rob is correct.
It's always a challenge to build a comforting and inviting image that captures the spirit of a particular denomination. It's almost like capturing light in a bottle but...
Mike,
Out of all respect for your pastor It's doubtful he's a designer. I would suggest you put materials, textures and mechanical steps out of your mind and concentrate on the image. Attached is...
Michael,
"I am trying to design and make a new sign for my church"
Wondering if this is Christian. The design doesn't look very spiritual. No matter what material you end up with, it's the...
Chad,
Nice looking signs. Good layout and choice of letter styles.
They look sandblasted but could be a combination of routing and blasting. I guess these are redwood?

Congratulations on a neat little project.
We love this kind of work and it can be the fastest and easy if you go natural. The customer suggested barn-wood. That means the sign should look...
I'm with Wayne. After reading a little further and seeing his post I'm further set back.

Aspire is a down right bargain. What are you expecting? After all, Artcam was many times over more expensive.
For those interested in techniques and concepts www.signs101.com is a good place to look. There are some CNC folks showing their stuff. This is forum is free and open to all.
Here's another link....
I'm with John.
Another material suggestion is Trupan. It's lighter than MDF although there is MDF Light which is about the same weight as Trupan. Both carve well and are much tougher than Foam.

Excellent work Phil.
Did you have to spend much time with finishing.
Chad,
Good to see you back.
We need fellows like you who has the experience.
Joe
Bob,
To save time I like using standard decking screws.
Wish we had more sign artist still posting.
Keep up the good work.
