Sweet! Great job on the carousel head as well.
My guess would be that laser cutting the acrylic is a two edged sword.....good for the LED edge, but bad for the other three sides. I know some folks are using reflective metallic tape on the other...
Thanks guys. Have not tried flame polishing yet. I also own an Epilog laser and read somewhere that if you laser cut the edges, it has the same effect as flame polishing.
Hi all. I've been fooling around with both 2D and 2.5D edgelit signs with some decent results, but it occured to me that if I left the paper on both sides, not only would I protect the bottom, but...
Very, very nice. My guess is yes, for that portion, an endmill would have been "crisper".
Check out http://www.moslowwood.com/ I've used them in the past, they are good people. Also look at their Specials section. They've got a really nice deal on 8 x 10 walnut plaques with an ogee...
Impressive, Ben. I keep thinking I'll try aluminum some time, but seems like every project I do leads to ten more. It's still on my "to do" list :)
Any body hear what the status is on the printer head that Shopbot was going to come out with? I too am seriously considering buying a 3D printer and right now the Replicator 2 is in strong...
I'll try a search of the Artcam forum and see what I can find on that. I tried a couple of different searches before posting here, but probably didn't use the right phrase to describe what I was...
Thanks, Brady. I intentionally set the parameters on the example just to get a very short tool path that would exemplify what is happening in "real" situations. My real step over is probably much...
This one has me stumped. I have Artcam 8 (not Artcam 2008). The problem is every time I make a pocket, I am getting a shallow outline around the pocket. I'm sure that this is because Z zero is not...
LOL! I thought so. But seriously, you've trained him to use the toilet and to feed himself.........is botting in his near future?
Jack,
I bet Bob looks really good when he gets into you Bot Dust!
Thanks, all. Will try slowing the rpms and using masking tape. Like I said, the bottom will not be seen, so he can keep experiementing with the side he started on, then flip it if he finds a...
Thanks, guys. Brand new bit, so it's probably the plywood. He bought it at one of the big box stores. The bottom side of the piece will never be seen, so I suggested he keep playing with the side...
Hi all,
My Son is working on a project for his boss which involves v carving a pattern on plywood. He is using 3/4" with oak veneer, utilizing a follow the vectors strategy- .1" deep with a 30...
Wow, Ken. That looks exciting! Thanks for posting/
Very nice, George. I like the sentiment! Just out of curiosity, what did you use to hold down the plaque?
Kurt, I'm not at my Artcam computer right now, but I believe that when you import a 3D (vs pasting a relief), you are in the 3D view, not the 2D view. At the beginning of the import, in the 3D view,...
Ken, thanks for posting the site. Dave, I tried it yesterday and couldn't get through. This morning.......no problem. His work does look good, but has anybody purchased from him?
Thanks alot, Jack!
Adrian is absolutely on the money..........unfortunately, I didn't have the money to go with the spindle! My "solution" was to build a room out of sheetrock around the bot (I had plenty of...
Hi Jack. Maybe color is in the eyes of the beholder, but what happens is this: When you first mill purpleheart, it appears like a light shade of brown. Once you start exposing it to the sun, the...
Jack, I have done several purpleheart carvings. Dave's suggestion is excellent. I will normally place my carvings in a window until I get the desired shade of purple, then apply UV resistant...
