I would check the tightness of the z axis motor pinion gear. I experienced a similar issue on my older PRT and that was the solution. The loose gear was introducing backlash.

Rich,
I sent you a PM.
I made one myself with some laser modules from any number of websites. I ordered from www.dx.com (dealextreme). They are about $4 each for a cross hair style or line style. Downside is that the...
I just used the same method on my PRT for a move. I did cheat on the trailer portion and used my brother's flat bed tow truck for the move. A motorized winch beats a small come-along any day.
...
I sent you an email with my contact information.
Doug,
I'm getting ready to set up my PRT form a move and could help you out shortly. I'm in Dorr now, so just a bit south.
Kevin
I really doubt you can get a metal cutting laser for this price range. This is more the lower range for the CO2 laser cutters and engravers that will not touch metal.
Depending on the...
I know you can search quite a few options online. Search sit-to-stand desks and you will find a series of options. Bolt-on systems can also be purchased that work with your existing desk.
I...
Jeff,
I can offer some assistance if you need it. I'm actually just up the road in Portage.

Michael,
Your comment is right up my alley. When I have too many of my own things to do, or am not interested in the job people want me to help with, I offer that I will solve their problem if...
Bill,
Any chance of seeing the probe run? I'm mainly interested in the 2d profile feature, so that would not take hours of demo like a small 3d probing would.

They are a little over $3 each. Don't ask how I know.
Rob,
I have a machine similar to yours, but with the 4G upgrade. If you are interested, you could send me the file and I can see if the same chatter appears on my machine with the upgrade. Also,...
I will agree with the membrane style keyboard. If you look around, these are rather inexpensive. After the keyboard that came with the PC died, I switched to one of these with no problems so far. ...
Jon,
My question would be what is the focus of the book? Are you just looking for mainly plans with a few tips? Plans that show off the described tips? Do you have a scale of machine you are...
John,
I have both a Shopbot and a laser cutter/engraver. I have found the laser great for small items that are difficult for the SB to do easily. Any especially thin or extremely detailed items...
Brian,
The one we made was just two pieces of cherry. Cut a notch just past halfway on each one on opposite sides. These notches are set a a height so that when slid together, the pieces are...
Dave,
I would skip the laser for normal plywood. The laser has some issues with cutting the glue layers on many types. We tried some oak and luan and some could catch fire easily. The Baltic...
My laser is a Rabbit RL-80-1290 Laser engraving/cutting machine. The 3x4 cutting table is far too large for the normal small items, but does help when cutting lots of little items at once.
I...
I'll agree with the CO2 laser not being able to engrave aluminum directly. Anodized aluminum works very well, or you have to apply a special paste or spray called Cermark to 'etch' the metal.

I have mine set and installed on the machine as three lasers - vertical line, horizontal line and the cross hair. Idea was to help line up the corner with the horizontal and vertical lines and use...
I would swear I flipped the DIP switches to 1. If one does not work, move both switches to 2. Easy enough to check both. I would power down the controller box before changing any settings however....
Move the motor and pinion gear away from the rack on both sides of the x axis. Flip both dip switches to 1 and try to move the gantry in the x direction. One motor should spin CW and the other CCW....
Basically, Frank's instructions were to flip the switch from channel 4 to 1 in order to set up the drive as an x-drive from channel 1. Since the only difference between the two X drives is a change...
