Greetings:
Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this : I have a desktop that's 4-5 years old. I use it primarily for making guitar/mandolin/ electric bass parts. It's located in my...
never mind...... Tom at tech support hooked me up! most likely culprit is MDF crud on the prox switch. I'm not at work today but will check it out when I get to work tomorrow.
Hi botters
all of a sudden , when I try and zero the x,y axes, the x travels to its stop point but the display shows as if it is continuing to go past 0 into negative numbers.....
any ideas?
...
thanks: will try it and report back

I have NO idea what/how the student did this but while zeroing the Z something went awry.
error message says to reset the stop switch: how do you do this on the desktop? I looked in the SB help...
thanks for that feedback, Sallye... I will definitely check out the handibot site... I'd still like to see one 'up close and personal' and since Summer is early upon us, I might be up for a road...
Thanks for all the feedback: especially Russ for that incredible visual: if you don't teach then perhaps you should
And thanks to Kyle for the educator's input. What grades are you...
We've had our desktop for about a year and we're loving it! We can use a second machine and the principal is all for it. We're making signs, electric guitars, small jewelry boxes, ...pretty much ...
too clean
That's what I'm finding, Mike:
even after only 10 or months with the desktop we're only limited by our imaginations: (and the size of the table). in my generic woodworking classes we are...
thanks for the effort on this project... we'll give it a try: the new semester is starting up and a few kids want to use the Bot to do most of their stuff..... (I also have four grandsons... all who...
so Joe Porter: I didn't even realize I could zero the x,y axes anyplace on the table so that's a new skill I learned: Thanks: that certainly will allow us to cut stuff at different places on the ...
Thanks, Joe... that makes perfect sense. Thanks.
Karl
hopefully later today I'll try my theory out and earn that Guinness (assuming that my son hasn't found where I hid it)

here's what I mean about the fence following the vertical axis at x=1.5
you can (sort of) see the allen head bolts that go into brass inserts in the table, which allows me to take the fence...
consider that design stolen....er.....borrowed!
what are you using for a cutter to cut the box joints? 1/8"?
here's one of the first projects we cut. Someone had donated a pallet of ash that...
Thanks for getting back to me:
I'm working in Vcarve pro.
and Joe, it has the same XY arrangement, I think I misspoke. I had a fence on the table on the vertical axis that was lined up with...
I think I might have figured it out:
when I was in shopbot 3 and previewed the toolpaths, it doesn't recognize that I had used an offet of 1.5 (x) when setting it up. It shows the material in...
Greetings:
o.k..... we're trying to cut some fender style guitar necks on the desktop.
we created the design and toolpaths... and set it up to tile on a vertical plane.
when we cut the...
I'm a complete rookie at CNC but we've been very happy with the desktop at the high school I work at. We're cutting electric guitar bodies (1.75" thick) and are now reliably cutting them (zero...
Hi Max:
still trying to find time to come by your shop when I'm up in Washington next: I'm thinking we'll be up there around Feb school vacation, maybe I'll PM you when it gets close and sneak...
we went from hand- drawn pictures, made a JPG of them , then used bitmap trace and finally 'fit curves' to refine our guitar shapes. we found that we could hit 'fit curves' 2-3 times to...
we got through most of the electric guitar bodies....will finish them up this week. I zero'ed off the table for each one. Getting a little cocky I put another 1.5" 'dummy ' blank on the machine...
I'm about 9 months into using the Bot..... so I am sitting here shaking my head and thinking how we have already encountered very similar mishaps. Thankfully we've only lost one bit to the learning...
sorry it took a couple days to get back to you. Now I understand the concept: as long as there is electrical continuity between the place you choose to clip the grounding alligator clip and the bit,...
