Has anyone ever seen a PRS do that? :P. There's even more speed where that came from... That's usually what I keep it...
Hey all! After many years of running (and building) this machine I'm selling it. It's a heavily modified PRS 4x8 ATC.
My guess is that this is one of the top 2 or 3 most powerful (and reliable)...
We all have the right to say whatever we want. It's one of the many great things about America. We also all have the right to decide if we care how the things we say could affect/be interpreted by...
I didn't think you were being derogatory. I think I made the point well enough above that even though you were being well intentioned but it could be read by others differently.
I'm sure there are...
I'm sure your comment wasn't meant to harm of be derogatory.
However if does come off as a bit tone deaf. I can't speak for what it's like to be a woman in woodworking/CNC, but if someone made a...
Are you surprised that a woman would buy a CNC?
How about a new one that performs much better than the original?

Designed and made ON a ShopBot!
You can get sewer back flow prevention valves too that will automatically close on any motors that are turned off. That’s what I did on my setup back when I had it.
Looks to me like they’re not the same… one is in the negative and one is positive. What do you have on your A axis? A rotary?
Try changing the values for the A axis to match the Z and see if the...
I own one... what's the question? Are you looking to buy one or do you have a question about how it works?
You can shorten them if you want, you have to cut down the long X rails.
I'd recommend against dangerous and noisy tools though. Using a hack saw or a cut off wheel will technically work but it...
.5 IPS is waaaay to slow. Start at 3 to 4
That’s a good suggestion Rob. I do a similar approach with decent results. With a little tuning you can get pretty decent quality but at some point you run up against these being aluminum framed...
You’ve got quite the large engine hoist! One for lifting engines in large trucks? Most the them that are for the home shop are rated to two tons or less.
I’m curious if anyone else has tried...
Do you have a picture of those 800 pound logs? I’d love to see how you got them under the gantry.
If you’re doing math, a concrete slab would be comfortably over 1000 pounds.
On early PRS...
I have upgraded my legs too... Trust me don't put concrete or granite there. Just biscuit some panels together and you'll be in great shape.
I would not do concrete. That's insanity. You'd never ever be able to move that machine again. You'd likely warp the cross members and crack the slab anyway. The long X rails can sag under the weight...
I disagree, the drive system and the spindle alone can command a pretty solid price.
I'll echo what jTr said above. There are actually some good choices out there for going from SU to CNC
You can open older versions of SketchUp files in VCarve but the import is a bit limited. Side...
Some of the smaller shopbots (Desktops) have a speed control knob on them. The larger machines like the Buddy and the PRS have the option of either using a knob, keypad on the front, or for a few...
Don and Bill, glad to hear you had better luck with spindles.
Agree with what others are saying here too, spindles are great. Do it!
I run my machine commercially and I got 3 years to the day out of my two HSD 1073 MT spindles. They can be rebuilt but it costs as much as a new one. I upgraded to an ATC and I'll never go back to a...
