got a call back from support, all good! I did not know the setting default had changed to normally off. I hadn't actually tried cutting, I just new from previous versions I had to turn it off. As far...
PC in the shop died, finally got a new one together and set up. I need to turn off my limit switches, or they go off no matter where my X and Y are actually at.. thanks! Brett
Did this for a friend, he specified material, and gave me a PDF of the logo, I had to do a lot of cleanup on. Used 3 different bits, but came out pretty nice!
Apparently one of my kids deleted vector files for one of my projects. I have the cutfiles, but it was so long ago I am unsure if I cut it in melamine or ply. I did call support, and their is a way...
Well hmm.. that's not good. I can't tell for sure, but I'd assume the stepper is attached to a gear reduction box?? It has to have bearings in it somewhere.. shaft wear, bearing wear, not sure? All I...
All the pinions were tight, they wouldn't move on the shafts. All the set screws were tight, and the ones I did break loose to swap the pinions for the X and Z were on there good. The X motor had a...
well, that was it. Swapped the X and Z motors, now my circles are round again. I tried it at 3.5 and 2 ips and there was no difference. I started hunting for a motor, and the model number of Vexta...
Believe it or not, today was the first chance I had to get back to the cnc. I noticed something today.. the holes that I believed to be undersized, are actually slightly oval shaped. The way I had it...
I was thinking the hole size was part of the issue with it not cutting straight. The holes do look perfect, not out of round or anything. I will make a series of holes from .25 to 1.0 and try it at...
I did just check my partworks file again, I should say the hole size is 1.13 not 1.3 as I mentioned. Still losing about 3/32 of the actual size. Bit was set correctly to 1/4 bit.
I am using a double flute 1/4 compression, .405 per pass, 3.5 inches per second. Been running that for 2 years or so now.
thanks for the suggestions, now that the holidays are wrapping up, i'll be back in the shop again! I just had a customer find a problem on a project he picked up. I made an arcade control panel, had ...
This just started happening recently. I was cutting black melamine with a double flute 1/4 compression bit, file I've used for the last 5 years, new bit, etc cut it with success many many times. My...
i get that little step over look when i cut it too. I use a compression spiral to cut all mine. With the compression bit, it packs the dust in the cut pretty tight, i don't have an issue with parts...
i bought my 14 year old daughter a ps3 for christmas, and a copy of Grand Turismo XL. I also have a really nice Logitech G27 steering wheel, that has the wheel, shifter, and foot pedals. I am going...
i cut a ton of melamine with whiteside UD2100 bits, and i get alot of buildup on them, I use a brass brush, then soak them in a sealed plastic bowl of rubbing alcohol. Wipes off in about 2 days.
good stuff! i use my shopbot almost exclusively for reproducing classic arcade cabinets.. been at it for almost 5 years now, and make 60 different ones.
Here's a couple of mine:

Let me add the Christian, frank, and Scott from SB have been extremely helpful in suggestions, things to check, and troubleshooting, but it's down to where i can do no more on my end to diagnose it....
i absolutely agree this should have been taken care of in my first year of ownership. I had scott from SB walk me through the install, and settings. We did an install on a fresh PC with windows XP...
My machine has comm errors every single time with the previous software. It has had comm problems since the day i bought it, and 4 years later, still fighting it. USB cable from control box to pc is...
well, i'm pretty much defeated. after checking anything and everything i could check, it's still not working right.
the issues were totally solved with the beta software. With no changes at all, they started happening again. Changed out pc's, still happening. Was on the phone with tech support, had me check the 5...
running the beta software, it has no speed test. using an enhanced usb 2.0 port, and cable coming from the cnc. using the hub that came with the machine. I was told that powered hubs can sometimes...
Well, i've only had communication problems since i bought my shopbot in 09, so today isn't any different. New pc, running windows XP, black viper barebones setup, no internet, screen saver, power...
