    Default ATTN: Joe Crumley

I am extremely appreciative of the list of steps to paint vcarved letters you posted back on 6/11/05. I do, however, have a question about one of the steps.

Just prior to painting the letters, you advised that the mask should be waxed and buffed. How do you wax the mask without getting wax in the letters which I presume is a no-no.

    CH,

Would you please re-post the thread you're refering to. I remember the general discussion but don't seem to locate it.

As I remember, there was a considerable interest
interest in gilding v-Carve letters. Is this the subject you had in mind?

    Charles,

Thanks for the post and kudo's for my old friend Dave.

Back when many of us were trying to solve to bleeding problem of undercuts, Dale Kerr was posting solutions. I too was wresting with the problem and came up with a simular solution. Much water has gone under the bridge and I've turned to another technique.

First let me say, I should have posted the use of a thin felt pad glued to 3"X3" block of pine. That was the method of application of paste wax. It seemed to work but the whole process was too time demanding. I now use another technique as demonstated at Beckwith Camp, "Dr. Crumley's Rootin Tootin Snake Oil Mask.

It's nothing more than a generious application of Rubber Cement. Then cover the surface Transfer Tape and burnish down. Once the routing and painting is complete all the rubber cement comes right up with the removal of the Transfer Tape.

Perhaps I should post a show and tell with Dr. Crumley's solution. It's fun to do and much faster.
