I'm a Shopbot newbee. Just got my 48x96 standard control machine assembled and up and running, well almost.... I can figure out what command makes the router motor start. I can make all the axis moves, just can't get the router to turn on. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

If you have a porter cable router then you have to turn the switch on the router on. It is not done through software control. If you have a spindle along with spindle control hardware, your can turn the spindle on and off using Shopbot Control software. On my machine I use

    SO 7,1
    SO 1,1

to turn the spindle on and

    SO 7,0
    SO 1,0

    to turn the spindle off.

Actually Don you can have the router turn on (kind of).
I had a power supply for the router put in the control box when i bought mine. I run a extension cord to the router that is powered when you hit the start button. This way when you make files it will turn the power on to the switch and turn the router off at the end of the file.
I can't recall the specific name of the part (sorry)

I do have a Porter Cable Router, the router switch is in the On Position and the Router cable runs into the control box. There is also a keyed connection on the front of the Control box. The Key is attached to the router wrench and it is in the On position. Still can't get the Motor to engage.

I have a spindle but if you are wired to the control box sounds like you could do a "k" on the keyboard to bring up the manual move screen and then I turn on switch 1 and 4. I believe this is new with the newest control box mine is a standard november 2009.

Ted mentioned that this feature (router on/off) was being included with the new control box when he showed it to folks at the Virginia camp last fall.

The same feature has been included with Alphas for a while now.

On Alpha's the commands for on/off are:
SO 1,1 (Short for Signal Output #1 Turn On)

SO 1,0 (Short for Signal Output #1 Turn Off)

SO 2,1 and SO 2,0 are for a second Z axis spindle on/off

I don't use the SO 7,1 and SO 7,0 commands that Don mentioned above for turning my router on/off. I don't know if they are necessary for his spindle setup or if he's using them to turn on/off an accessory like a dust collector.

    Russ,

The SO 7 is to override having to push the spindle start button each time I do a bit change. Before, after a bit change, I had to remember to push the spindle start button or I would have a disaster when the bit plowed into the material while it was not running (has happened).
