    Default Free 3d scanner???

    http://www.cs.tu-bs.de/rob/david.html

It used to be linked on wikipedia, but that link disappeared. It works with a laser line generator, 90 degree wall and laser printed calibration images. It spits out an .obj file.

I'm planning on trying to get this going over the next couple of weeks.

Downloaded and installed David. Built calibration corner to exacting detail. Camera calibrated fine. However, I could not produce anything that closely resembled an object. When I look at the 3d scan, all it looks like is noise. Documentation says that there should be a high incident angle between the camera and the laser projection. However, it didn't seem to scan for me unless I placed the laser right above the camera. Maybe I need a better camera. Anyone have success with this software?

not yet. I'm trying to get my camcorder to pick up webcam emulation. Supposedly ccd works best, and the lights should be dim enough that only the laser shows. The high incidence is required to keep the laser from reflecting directly into the camera, blinding it.

    I'm still trying too.

I just got an email that there's been an update to the David software with some fixes...
