    Default error 6 - overflow

    newbie here,
Just completed my first shopbot machine assembling.
Now in the control software (latest version) as soon as i give a move command, I get the eroor 6 overflow.

Ryan from shopbot said there is something wrong with the computer, not with the machine, and indeed, on my mac book on the xp partition, it runs fine.

But still, what could be wrong with the computer?
    specs 3ghz, 1gb ram, xp

    any tips are much apprechiated

It just happened to us with a BT48 Alpha.

I assumed that the instalation was bad because it couldn't load the default settings for that model.

We ended reinstalling the windows on the machine, and after that the control software, and everything went OK.

Do you have a dedicated USB 2.0 card for the Shopbot connection?

    Thanks for your replys!

actually I noticed the same about the machine model settings not beeing able to load on the first run.

The thing is I did install this shopbot standard 96x48 for a fablab in a school in Amsterdam. They provided the comps with the installation.
Maybe its a good idea to just reinstall the system.

On the other hand, Michael's question makes me thinking. I remember on the speed test it found the machine on port 3, while in the hardware manager it says port 2 ' generic port'. Maybe thats the problem.

However, there is no dedicated usb card installed on that comp.
But either on my macbook ;-)

carlos, do you run it on windows 7 now?

I recall reading somewhere on this forum that XP Pro handles USB connections differently and is therefor recommended over home.

Re installing the system would be a good idea, and make sure you are only running the essentials by disabling things like automatic update, firewalls, startup items, etc...

From the specs of the computer I would check to see if in fact the port that you are using is a USB 2.0 port.

Having a separate card dedicated to the bot helps prevent other devices such as your keyboard/mouse and thumb drive from taking priority.

I run my PRS Standard from a reconditioned dell that cost $150.00 with similar specs to what you describe, and while I did need to add a USB 2.0 Card, since all the ports were 1.0, everything has worked fine.

Granted, this text file is directed at Mach3 users, but I believe it can also be useful to all SB/XP users. The focus of the file is to set up XP so that all unnecessary processes are prevented from starting. Results in an OS that not only has no unnecessary calls to the CPU, but runs very fast. Ideally, for the cleanest system, do a reinstall of XP, then follow the optimization advice.

To the best of my knowledge, USB handling is not one of the differences between XP pro and home.

May not be appropriate for a computer that is also used for design or other common uses, but then, you are best off having a dedicated control computer anyway.

Overflow errors are an indication of bad memory, memory leakage or some type of corruption. Try replacing the RAM and see if it happens again. RAM is pretty cheap these days...

    Hi Alex,

I can see that you are in Amsterdam, so maybe your national settings on the computure is wrong?

I had the same problem when I first tried to run shopbot control software on my computure. My problem was quite simple, I had the wrong national settings regarding how numbers should be read. For example, in Sweden the settings are: 123 456 789,00
    In USA: 123,456,789.00

    Kind regards
