Default control box main switch left on

Hello, Got a Newby question here. I discovered awhile back that I had inadvertently left the main control box switch on for about a week while not using the machine. Computer and programs all off. I know all kinds of stuff, motors, relays, etc. remain powered up when this switch is on. Is this a serious no-no or what ? Couldn't find anything in the book about it. I have a PRT Alpha 4X4. I have used it since and all seems OK. The control box was warm of course when I discovered it.
    Thanks, Ronnie

Depending on who you ask, some leave theirs on all the time, others turn them off. Leaving it on won't harm it but my opinion is it is better to always turn it off.
I have done the same, gone off for days only to discover i left it on. No harm done.

I have left my control box on overnight and overweekends quite a few times. The drivers are engaged and putting out whatever power is needed to hold the Z axis in position. Beyond that the other axes should be drawing very low current.

Nothing ever hurt from it that I can tell.

My only concern with leaving it on overnight is a thunderstorm. When it is turned off it is electrically disconnected from the power.

I certainly wouldn't be concerned about it.

I agree with Dana, the only real danger is if you get thunderstorms come rolling through and you get a strike. I've left mine on for days (accidentally) and have had no problems.

Does everybody hook up the controller to a UPS battery back-up?

Thanks for the input guys. I had a feeling that I wasn't the only forgetful woodworker out there. I guess the equipment design allows for pretty much continuous power on mode if necessary. I would think that undoubtedly certain components would live longer if not powered up continuously.
