    Default Latest HDU sign

    Hi All,
This is the latest sign I've made from HDU. I used 1-1/2" 18# Precision Board.
The signs (there are 2. One for each sign of the entrance.) are 24" x 8-1/2".
These were for a repeat customer who usually has a design already and just wants me to build it.
This time he didn't have anything in mind so I showed him a few samples (all of them dimensional) and he wanted the sign to look just like one of the samples. Same font and everything.
So I'm a big believer in samples now and will be making a lot more of them when I don't have paying jobs on the go.

    Default final finish

What paint did you use to finish/ age the sign ??
The decimal point seems to be the most important on the z axis... x & y not so much....
ShopBot... Where even the scraps and things you mess up and throw away are cool....

    Curtis,
I used Sophisticated Finishes Copper Surfacer then sprayed it with their Patina. The letters were finished with Modern Masters paint.

    Nils,
    Thanks!

    Hi All,

    Cartar929,
Sorry but I can't tell you what colour Modern Masters I used because I just kept mixing colours until I got a colour I was happy with.

    Kevin,
I really like Modern Masters paint. They have some great colour choices and it is a very nice paint to apply. I have just ordered some of their Metal Effects paints to see how I like them. I wasn't all that happy with the Sophisticated Finishes. I've never seen a shop that carries Modern Masters but I was able to order it through my local Rona (Canada) dealer.

The entire sign was created in Aspire. Due to the rounded tops on the letters and the textured background of the metal plates the whole thing was machined as one big 3D element.
There were actually 2 of them and it took about 7.5 hours to cut them both out at 3.5 i.p.s. I just read through Brady's article on ramping and I'm going to play around with that to see if I can decrease my cut times.

Thanks everyone for the comments and the interest.

Scott I know what you mean the modern masters mixes pretty well with colors. I mix the gold in often with cream colors it makes the color much more rich. Very nice sign though.

Great job. The background is really cool. How did you create it or where do you get it. Thanks
