    Default Cut Speed Issue

I should know this by now, but haven't taken the time to address it. When I'm using my spindle to 'drill' (cut) holes, why does it not always travel at the specified speed?

As an example, I do both 20mm and 15mm holes, with the cut speed for these operations set at 8ips. On the 20mm holes it zips around the holes at what very well may be 8ips, but on the 15mm holes, it creeps around the holes, very noticeably slower. Travel speed does display as 8ips for both... Anyone know what's going on here? Thanks.

    Sounds like ramp settings.

I have had this issue from time to time. I haven't figured it out. On my machine if you hit the space bar to stop the machine then resume it goes back to full speed.

I have the same problem. It is not on all files. I'm cutting at 5 ips and it slows to less than 1 ips but still shows in the control software that it is moving at 5 ips. Once it hits another node it goes back to normal speed. I was told that Shopbot was aware of the problem.

    Nat,

What size bit are you using to cut the holes? I am guessing you are acutally doing pockets as far as the link is concerned. What are your pocket settings?

Did yo get your vac running when the spindle does yet?

    Hi Kenneth.

1/4" bit, attached is a screenshot of the pocket settings.

Relay on order for the DC. Looked like it would be (hopefully) fairly straight forward to hook up. Looking forward to get it working...

Try changing the pocket area through cuts.

I am thinking that the bigger holes are leaving the plug, and the smaller one is doing a complete pocket.

This is the description of the setting.
    Pocket Area (Through Cuts)

“Pocket Area (Through Cuts)” enables the user to control the tool deciding whether to leave a plug or too completely remove all material in the center of a pocket boundary. If the through pocket has an area less than the area specified, the tool will cut away all material within the pocket’s boundary. All through pockets, with an area larger than the specified amount, will be cut leaving a plug.

    Nat,

Under tooling, you can also see what kind of stepover you have set up for your pocket tool.

It could be a combination of not leaving the plug and a small stepover.

If you don't want to leave the plug, you can maybe get by with a larger stepover setting.
