Here is a sign completed back in March using many of the techniques learned from Professor Crumley.

Sign blank is glued up vertical grain yellow pine, approx 36" x 29". Background texture was carved instead of sandblasted this time. Carved with a 3d toolpath, 3/8 EM for roughing, 1/8 taper ball nose for finish pass.

Anchors are carved from HDU and painted with modern masters paint.

Center of Redneck yacht club lettering was vcarved after the 3d toolpath and drilled for installation of LED christmas lights from back to allow the red acrylic letters to be backlit and provide a halo effect around the sign. Idea is sign will be lit when owner is in his shop to let the neighbors know the bar is open.

Blue lettering is applied vinyl.

Had hoped to have an installed photo to show before posting, but will add it when I get one from the customer.

This is the sign currently in progress.

Again a vertical grain yellow pine glue up, This time it was vcarved without a background texture. Cut a sandblast mask out of hardboard using the Widget works pressure foot and applied with pin nails and sandblasted the background just enough to bring out the natural texture. The hardboard mask wore through a little quicker than I'd hoped and will probably go back to regular sandblast mask for the next one.

First picture shows it ready to sandblast and second one shows it sandblasted and the mask removed. It's now in the paint room and will post a picture when finished.

Dang Ken,

These are smoking hot good looking signs. I do believe you and I are the only sign souls who are using Yellow Pine. The only drawback with this wood is it's weight but it holds detail better than most woods.

I've wanted to install LED's in a sign like this. I really like the un-even light effect. That's much better than flat lite letters. Good to see you area using vinyl lettering. Just think we used to hand letter these.

The Allencroft also looks good sandblasted. Masonite will sometimes not hold up if you stay on it for a long time. You might consider using PVC or DiBond. The main concern with SB mask is the adhesive sometimes stays behing and it must t be sanded off which I hate. PVC is almost impossible to blast through. Staples hold it down fast.
