I'm also one of the few who used mechanical clamping. Once upon a time I had a vac system. For my kind of work they don't work very well.

Here are a couple hold downs I've designed. They were cut from 2" thick Oak from a discarded table.

If anyone wants the DXF on these you need to mail me.

    Jack,

The blanks were $9.99 each if you buy from Michaels or $12.99 when you buy from their supplier "Walnut Hollow". They also have Oak and Basswood.

Their supplier is "Walnut Hollow" and you can see the blanks at this link.

The neat thing about buying the blanks this way, is that all of the hard work of gluing, sanding and shaping of the edges are already done for you. All I need to do is drop them into my fixture, clamp and start cutting.

    Hey,

Thanks to all for the nice comments on my carving. I have learned a lot from this forum and have met a lot of nice, helpful Botters.

    Note to:
    Michael Tyler.
If you are the same Michael Tyler of the "CarveWright",
forum and POM contributer, then I want to tell you how much I
    enjoyed your POM's.
They were a lot of fun and good way to help me learn
and to advance from the CarveWright world to the ShopBot.

    Thanks again all you guys.

    Hi George,

Yes, I'm one in the same. Glad you enjoyed the CarveWright projects!

In addition to still making the monthly projects for CarveWright, I also create projects for Vectric on a monthly basis (started those in Feb 2011) and will be making some ShopBot-specific projects very soon, as well. I just have too much fun, I guess!

So glad you are still enjoying CNC-ing!

George, thanks for the link to Walnut Hallow. I have a few projects I wanted to carve and just ordered some of thier pre-finished blanks tonight online. Your carvings look great. Keep up the good work.
