    Default My Recent Carvings

Here are a few more of my recent carvings:

The first one ended up with a nasty Knot exposed, but the client is going to try staining to match the darker color. Material was from some recycled pine firewood that he salvaged. He had it laying around for a few years, so it was good and dry.

The Second one is a STONE Family Crest. The client tried to carve it by hand and gave up. He asked me to take a look at it and see what I could do. After three months of it laying around, I finally got some inspiration and with the help of Aspire 3.0 this is what we ended up with. The client loves it.

The Third one is an Oak plank 72" long and 8" tall X 1.5 Thick.

The last one is a 18 X 24 inch picture frame cut from 3/4" MDF. I actually made about 75 of these frames in assorted sizes and styles.

    Cuts look good.
Sometimes knots can add character to a piece, I often look for imperfections to work into the design. That one I agree does not look too great, hopefully the stain will make it look better.

I use mechanical clamping. My table is two blocks of 1.75 thk X 24 X 48 maple slabs (see the third picture), placed side by side on my 48 X 48 PRS alpha SB. I have drilled holes thru the table every four inches. On the underside of the holes I have installed .375-16 UNC Propeller Nuts. This configuration permits many clamping options. I have an assortment of metal and wood clamp straps and 3/8" studs and nuts.

Here is one using a locating fixture with clamps for production.
This particular carving has been treated with Boiled Linseed Oil, then placed back into the fixture for photo, after curing.
