    Default Bad Collet Video

Was trying out a new video camera that I just purchased and this happen the very first time I used the camera. If you have ever wondered how to tell if your router collet has gone bad just watch the video. http://youtu.be/g_S_qyilxZ4 This is one sure way to tell.

Other than the first cutter falling out, I fail to see the problem.

    George,
That is the problem. The first bit shouldn't have fell out. I've used that collet hundreds of time and never had the problem. I replaced the old collet with a new one and all is well.

Many times you will buy a 1/8 inch (or 1/4) bit and they will ship a 6MM (or 12MM). They are just enough different that the 6MM will fall out. I have both a 6MM and a 1/8 inch collet, it does manke a difference.
