    I plane them down on the table, using the 1.5 inch bit I plane the table with..

    For clamping I just use cross boards fore and aft and wedge to the side of the table.
    being so big in size I just used a 1/4 inch ball nosed end mill for the carving.

    This round was 8 inches thick.

    Dan don't you have anything better to do then make cool stuff like that?

    I suppose the finish and the type of wood combinations could be many different ones. I'm no finishing expert but i'd use more of a clear coat that shows the beauty of the wood. Another neat project!

    They are all clear coated, no stains..the lightest one is minwax tongue oil..

    Very nice Dan. Are those western red cedar? One coating you could try for exterior applications is Sikkens "maintenance" coat. Bob

    Yes, I use a lot of sikkens coatings for large outdoor cedar signs..
