Hi Stephan
I would start with a basic contract for services
Use a template modeled on a contractors agreement, get rid of whats not applicable. I would have a notice of lein in the contract. I believe a sign could be considered a part of the property. Do an internet search for legal agreements, contracts etc.
Hi Andre
In order to cut down on the trial and error I was hopeing someone had some text ready to cut and paste with a little editing involved . It might take quit a while to read trough all those posts on the net to find what works , and I just don't have the time right now to do that .

Stephan, here are a couple terms and conditions we include in our proposals.
50% deposit prior to ordering material and commence production
50% upon completion.
This means when we are done, not when their permit is approved, or when they can schedule installation.
When its ready, we photograph it and send the invoice.
It needs to be paid before installation.
Dont want to hear , they forgot the check and see it hanging there with an open invoice hoping we get paid.
Customer is responsible for code compliance, contacting utilities if required, permit application and approval IF we are not contracted for that work or another sub.
Permit filing is a separate hourly rate and mileage if we need to attend a village meeting to present and gain approval. We try to stay out of permits and have a source we refer them to.
Installation is a separate fee.
Hardware is quoted as a componenent rather than a single price for sign and hardware so they can select optional brackets etc depending on their budget, design goals and taste.
Sign remains the property of (your company) until reciept of final payment.
Custom signs are non returnable and non refundable.
Customer to provide or approve final color selections prior to production.
We quote the sign with 3 to 5 weeks lead time depending on design and shop load at the time of order.
Design fees and or deposits are required in some cases depending on what the customer has for artwork, what they want (extent of design work etc.
We provide 2 renderings with our budegetary proposals. After that if they want to go forward with changes or a final design we need to create a design fee or 50% deposit is required.
Now thats what I am talking about now I have amuch better picture of what that contract should look like .
Thanks to all that have and will put there 2cents in here .
