Meet Mr. Moose
I thought their might be some interest in a project we recently completed.
The project consisted of cutting 88 4.5in square blocks for a client’s new home.
The blocks will be used in the trim around the windows in
place of conventional style rosettes.
The blocks are a mixture of deer, moose, loon, heron, oak leaf, boat, and ships wheel.
The designs were from James Booth’s V3M collection.
We used 1 inch 15 lb Sign foam. I cut the sheet into 24 inch square
panels this made it much easier to handle.
The panels were held down with double stick tape.
We rescaled each design from the original and dropped each into a
grid that left allowance for cut out.
We cut using a 1/16 inch ball nose bit single pass with a step-over of 8 %.
We moved along at 1.7 ips. Depending on the model we were cutting the time to cut was about 45 minutes per.
One lesson I learned early on was that the table top needs to be REALLY FLAT.
On dished models any dips and valleys in the spoil board stick out like a sore thumb.
After cutting the blocks and cleaning them a bit I wrapped, boxed
and shipped them to the client in Vermont.
No sanding or painting on my part.
The last two images are from the
customer after he finished painting some samples.
He is still experimenting with the final colors.
This was an enjoyable but lengthy project. I’d like to find more projects like this.
You can see some errors in the image posted. These we from all the lost communications errors
I have been plagued with the past year or so. That problem has sense been resolved.
I will write about that resolution in another post.
