    Default Table sides

OK it's here , started putting the table together to day. I have a 12"Z , so two sets of sides , my question is , should the two sides , one sitting on top of the other , be connected? They are both fastened at the ends of course , the lower side has the cross beams attached and the top side has only the X-rails to resist any flex. Seems to me they should be connected. Maybe I missed something?
