    Default Y Axis Error

I came upon this error the other day while working with our ShopBot at school. When I opened up the ShopBot software and press "K" to zero the ShopBot this error appeared:

    Capture.jpg

If I press cancel it closes the move axis menu
If I press OK it continues forward but when I attempt to move my Y my coordinates jump between - 48.500 and 97.000 (see below) but my tool does not physically move. Moving X and Z still work fine

    and

If clarification is needed on any part please let me know

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

What version of the software are you using. If using any 3.8 other than the latest you should upgrade. All previous versions have had issues for some folks.

    Pat,
You most likely had a static electricity spike which triggered your Y prox switch and also spiked 5v USB. Make sure your tool is properly grounded, especially your dust collection. You should have a bare copper wire going through your dust hose, terminating at the dust collector chassis (ground). It will act like an antenna and wick up static sending it right to ground.

Brandy, I don't believe that is the problem with ours. Our dust collection is slightly different.

Unfortunately, I don't have much more information to provide.

Any other suggestions or ideas would be appreciated

Check out the help document on Table Base Coordinates. It should be located in a path similar to this.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\ShopBot\ShopBot 3\Help\Table Base Coordinates

If the above doesn't work check your Unit Values (VU command). X and Y should be identical. In this case I suspect the Y value may be unusually low.

Come to conclude that the error lies within the Control Stepper Motor for the Y.

The part number (at least what I believe to be the part number) is:

    Oriental Motor C006Q-044

I believe we have to replace this, has anyone done this before, or know a vendor to purchase one?

Just for reference, I just had this same problem.
I followed Nate's instructions, read the help file, updated my firmware, etc.
    It worked perfectly.
I was sure my stepper motor was fine because I slid it against the end of the rail and got it to chatter once while I was struggling with fixing it.
The culprit? An overnight Windows Update.
I haven't black vipered this new control laptop. That will be happening as soon as I finish this little project.
