Well got home and started to make my wife happy (this space has been almost empty for two months).
MDF doors came out nice with the Blum hinges.

This was the first time using the bot for a kitchen, next school year I'm going to teach a cabinetry class where we make and install garage cabinets for the first person that will pay for the materials and is in town so we can install them.

Looks great - but are those going to be drawers above the refrigerator?

Yes they are, I know it is not the norm but at 6'3" I can use them fine and it makes the space more usable. When we took out the old cabs with a lot of just doors we found stuff we put in them when we moved in 9 years age, I find with doors if it is not in front it never gets used.

The top drawer will have a side cutout to place items in from the side, that is why the glides are lower on the top.

Well it was not for me, it was for the wife but did not have to explain what I was doing all the time.

I know this is a bit older of a post but I've recently started to experiment with MDF. I bought a sheet from HD to play with and it just didn't carve well. It's pretty soft. After sanding and applying sanding sealer, the edges looked poor. I imagine it is simply a low quality/cost MDF.

Any recommendations? I've called around to a few lumber yard places and the general consensus is they order "MDF" without much thought involved in what type they are exactly getting.
